Thread Of Courage. Martha Corey, Stephan Lux, Cindy Sheehan
By Mark Uchine
People like Cindy Sheehan are indispensable; they are the people for all seasons. They are the quite heroes, the locomotives of progress, the driving forces of goodness.

How is it called when all is falling apart, when it is only blood and gore and dirt, and whenever you look, you see only destruction?
That, my dear has a beautiful name. It is called Dawn.
J. Anui. There will be no Trojan War.
From the author: Whenever witches are mentioned in this article those are referred to the mystical " servants of the Devil', and not to the followers of the Wicca religion currently practiced openly- MS.

When in 1692 Martha Corey said to her interrogators, "According to my experience and knowledge there are no witches,' she did not mean to become a hero or a martyr. She did not think forward at all. She said that because she was a free spirit and believed in herself. Freedom was as natural to her as to eat or drink. She lived her life, made up her mind and revealed the conclusions. Those conclusions were in front of her time by about 200 years. She paid by her life. But now we know: THERE ARE NO WITCHES!
Martha Corey, the old woman from 1692 was right but there is no monument to her or even a plaque- just a stone with her name at the Salem, MA cemetery's memorial of the innocent and a name on the list in the WitchMuseum. She died alone but her free spirit did not leave us apparently if we now have such people like Cindy Sheehan.
Stephan Lux, a Hungarian Jewish photographer in 1936 was not a martyr either. He just couldn't take it anymore. He saw the dark cloud coming and instead of a response he saw Hitler's Germany hosting the Olympics. He saw Jews and minorities persecuted on every step and the powerful International forces either looking sideways or even supporting the barbarism. Thus he shot himself at the League of Nations, right there, on the gallery, full of people. In his hands he had a briefcase full of incriminating papers about the Nazi policies towards Jews and minorities. Nothing happened. His body was carried away and the blood was washed off. Washing off the blood of the innocent became a tiresome endeavor after WWII, so Humankind invented a universal incinerator- a nuclear weapon, the one that kills thousands instantly. In a strange way Stephan Lux was right- none of us can now afford a self- detonated nuclear suicide. Thus we've got Cindy Sheehan.
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

I first found out about Cindy through the Gold Star Families For Peace. Simple, down- to- Earth Americans, parents of the GIs were against the war.
That saved my sanity. They were like me. Otherwise I felt as a traitor: as a first- generation immigrant I was supposed to support the endeavors of my new homeland no matter what it did, no questions asked. And ALL the media of Russian-Jewish Diaspora did just that- they howled with the support. If the Russian Jewish pundits could themselves become yellow ribbons they would do it. Who was I to doubt that campaign? I was alone.
Funny thing: Stephan Lux died for those people and they betrayed him. What would he say now about his Jewish brethren happy with the Iraqi and Afghan dead? What would he say about Israeli atrocities in Gaza?
So imagine my joy when I heard about Cindy and other Gold Star Families For Peace. Since then I followed her activity closely and for me she personified the REAL AMERICA. She kept me going. But now she needs help. Her article (see the link above) is full of bitter disappointment; the antiwar movement is collapsing under the burden of serial betrayals by the Dems and Obama. Cindy, the eternal torchbearer feels abandoned. The best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity.
Someone said that the world does not want to be saved, just wants to be left alone. That's true only partially. Nuclear weapons tore apart that philosophy. Albert Einstein said that we had to learn to think differently: to save the world now means to save thyself. Cindy Sheehan is one of those who thinks differently. She lost her son to the Big Lie. She looked that Lie in the eyes and saw Death, not only for her son but for many more sons and daughters here and in other countries. And like Martha Corey, like Stephan Lux she put herself in front of the Big Lie calmly drawing a line in the sand; here I stay and can't do otherwise. This country claims to follow the Lutheran morality; remember how Luther started?
People like Cindy Sheehan are indispensable; they are the people for all seasons. They are the quite heroes, the locomotives of progress, the driving forces of goodness. In all times when they appear the people around them seem not worth the effort. We, the people prefer to take it easy and we do not move until "fried rooster kicks us in the ass' per the Russian saying. In many cases that is too late and then we bury our children and cry hypocritical tears out of our lying eyes. We are usually neither good, nor bad, something amorphous; we are mediocre even in our human functions: sex, love, hate, parenthood. We seem to deserve what is coming. But that is not true.
Casey Sheehan did not die for a bunch of sheep. He died to ignite a torch his mother now carries. We cannot escape the light of that torch-it shines through any darkness. We thus can't hide. So each of us, reluctantly and afraid, still stands up and does something. Each of us thus stands on the wall. That is a very weak wall with lots of holes. The enemy is not only outside- he is very much within. But if we abandon the cause, if we just go away- not only we all will be eliminated one-by-one; our children will be eliminated before us. And then God will condemn us all to Hell. I, a committed atheist, consider the messages from such people like Martha, Stephan and Cindy as messages from the High Power. We better listen good.
God bless Cindy Sheehan and her cause. It is our cause and it is just. We shall overcome. I urge all the good to return to passionate intensity.
