Gemini New Moon June 12, 2010

Turn to the Gemini Chapter in any sun-sign book. Somewhere in the first paragraph you will read the word communication. Speaking and listening are certainly key issues for the Twins, but to understand them, we must go further. The psychic process to which Gemini refers includes much more. It is the whole issue of perception, the way the world communicates with us. The way we see, feel, hear, and smell all the phantasmagoria that surrounds us. Listening to words is just one thread in that much vaster tapestry.

Gemini, the sign of the Twins, is all about the Mind and how we use it. And once again, we have to remember that the Mind includes our hearts as well as our intellect. We really do have two minds: our metaphorical feminine brain and our factual masculine brain. The task we need to undertake for the Gemini New Moon is to bring these two brains together so that we begin to perceive the deepest realities of our life and our world.

The ancient myths of Gemini speak of twins, originally the Sun and Moon. Seemingly hostile to each other, they work together to build a mysterious city. One of my favorite authors, Charles Williams, often spoke of the metaphor of "the city'. For him it symbolized Divine Order, not an order of restraint or convenience, but an Order that gave rise to sublime Beauty and Splendor, like the deep instinctual order of the archetypes of the collective unconscious.

The alternation of daylight and darkness expresses the dance of life here on Earth: opposites that are different and yet complementary, ebbing and flowing like the tide. Two heavenly Lights, or types of consciousness, which build awareness and collective consciousness, which build the mysterious City. First we have to create that City within us by blending these two lights, these two types of consciousness. Then we can create that Divine City in the world.

Herein we find the original stories that people told themselves about their universe. They saw that our world was made up of two powers, equal and yet different. One offers a black and white perception of the world, solid and steady. The other a mysterious, constantly changing perception, creating gray areas that call for imagination. Two ways of perceiving the world: the Moon (the unconscious) and Sun (ego-consciousness) can be seen together during the day, while at night, the Moon rules the sky along with the Stars (cosmic order). This makes the Moon the mediator between the heavens and our earth.

Our solar patriarchal culture has banished us from the Night and with it, a feminine type of consciousness, the consciousness of the Imagination, that is connected to the deep Divine Order of the Cosmos. We are just waking up to its importance for our survival as a species. Our poets, dreamers and mystics have tried to give us an awareness of this type of consciousness, but in many ways it is watered down, just like seeing the Moon in the daytime sky waters down the nighttime Moon's impact on us.

To reclaim the full power of the Moon's Light, we have to experience it for ourselves. We have to go into the darkness of the unconscious and listen to our images, our intuitions and our feelings the organs of perception of feminine consciousness and our right-brain. Then we have to bring those images back to consciousness and use our left-brain to listen to what these impressions are saying about life. Just like working with a dream, we can cut to the essence of what is happening in our life and our thoughts and desires.

When we learn how these two types of consciousness work together, we will be able to transform our lives, solve our collective problems and change our society. This Gemini New Moon is our chance to plant the intention to do this.

The Gemini New Moon occurs on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11:16am GMT/ 7:16am EDT/ 4:16am PDT. The Sabian symbol for 22* Gemini is: Dancing couples in a Harvest Festival.

This image speaks to the natural rhythms of the Earth, both the seasonal rhythms and the dance rhythms. The couple is imagined as a man and woman, the opposition between the two sexes symbolizing these two types of consciousness. The dance unites our rationality with our instinctual, emotional nature (no stereotypes intended). The harvest is a result of the blending of these two different energies: two types of energy and consciousness which are in harmony with Divine Order.

The ruler of Gemini is Mercury, the Messenger of the Gods. It is the united Mind that can bring spiritual wisdom into practical form.

At this new Moon, Mercury, in its own sign of Gemini, is powerful and makes aspects to most of the other planet, assuring us that the Cosmos wants us to open our minds and heart to new information, new ways of perceiving and new beliefs.

The Sabian symbol for Mercury at 4* Gemini is: Holly and Mistletoe reawaken old memories of Christmas. As children, we believed in and so experienced the magic of a holiday like Christmas. This symbolizes a "resurgence of deeper values and aspirations which had been forced back into the collective unconscious. . . .a return to the source." (Dane Rudhyar, And Astrological Mandala) This image implies a longing for feeling-oriented values. It is a call to understand and value our right-brained, feminine consciousness, which sees that we are all connected.

So, with Mercury in tune with where the ongoing Cosmic Story is going the balancing of masculine and feminine, the reliance on the Imagination to help us perceive reality let's see how the other planets affect it.

Mercury is at the apex of a T-square with Chiron in Pisces and Mars in Virgo. A T-square is an energetic aspect between three planets that are 90* and 120* apart. The tension is all on the apex planet as it tries to disrupt the opposition.

The ongoing 60s T-square has Pluto at the apex, adding tension to the ongoing opposition between Uranus (the new) and Saturn (the old). Pluto is plowing through the first few degrees of Capricorn, exposing the weakness of capitalism, getting ready to bring down the house if necessary. The lunar eclipse on June 26^th will speak to this.

This T-square to Mercury signals that we are at an important crossroads in our thinking and perception of "reality'. Mercury at the apex gives us a chance to explore other "realities', learn new communications skills, skills and techniques that can further our ability to think outside the box with creative vision. You could try working with "non-local reality' as my friend calls it. Get someone to mentally connect with long-distance and see what you come up with.

Chiron in Pisces, still close to Neptune in Aquarius, brings us a healing vision for the world as well as the ability to perceive alternate realities. Chiron in Pisces expresses our ability to feel compassion for ourselves, each other and our world. Mars in Virgo can give us the skills to manifest this new vision and the workings of the Imagination into a practical form. The Mind (Mercury) is pressured to open its perceptions to the Imagination, so we can begin to implement our new vision now. What we imagine we can manifest. So watch your thoughts for old, negative thought patterns and leave them behind.

Mercury sextiles Uranus and Jupiter in Aries, attracting opportunities and new experiences in our immediate environment. We can be mentally agile, eager to learn new things, make holistic connections and give diverse expression to what we discover. Or we can be nervous and bored. The choice is ours. So stay with positive thoughts.

Mercury trines Saturn in Virgo, giving us the confidence, easy flow and luck to accomplish what we set our Mind to. Since Saturn in Virgo also squares this new Moon, we will find it easier to distinguish between which new ideas and perceptions are important and which ones aren't.

Mercury inconjuncts Pluto in Capricorn, taking into consideration what changes we need to make in our society as well as in our own ideas about professional success. We need to analyze and dissect our beliefs to improve our lives. How do we really use our Mind? What behaviors do we need to let go of? Really, what is success? Get past the frustration and discipline your Mind to concentrate on your real values.

Finally Mercury also sextiles Venus in Cancer, putting our focus on what we love and cherish. With Venus' trine to Jupiter and Uranus, this combination fills us with aspirations for ourselves and our society and offers us brilliant insights that open us to the future.

Gemini the Twins. Once Divine. One Mortal. It's up to us to unite them within ourselves. Our immortal soul sees the big picture. Our mortal Mind presents us with the NOW of our experience. Together, they tell a story that only you can answer to.

Plant the seeds. Make sure the Harvest comes in.
