Bush Supporters Get Desperate in PA, Stealing and Damaging Lawn Signs

Bucks County PA is at the center of intense political activity-- a suburb of  Philadelphia, with many residents who commute to Manhattan and North Jersey, this is a key battleground county in one of the most significant swing states. For weeks now, lawn signs for the Kerry Edwards campaign and local democratic candidates have been damaged and stolen. Just today, the local democratic headquarters reported that at least ten people had reported signs stolen. As I was walking in to get a replacement for a sign I'd placed in front of our office, which hadn't lasted 48 hours, a big, bearded guy wearing a harley shirt and a union for Kerry button came in to pick up five signs for neighbors who had had their signs stolen the night before. It's getting uglier here in this southeastern Pennsylvania county that has been said to be the one that could make or break the election for Kerry and Bush.

The sign pictured above, in front of the home of Chris and Rita Leydon, was spray-painted a few blocks from Peddlers Village, a popular tourist attraction in Lahaska, in Buckingham PA. Mrs. Leydon reports that it was decided to leave the sign as is, rather than replace it with a new one, that it would show how desperate the local Bush supporters are.

It was stolen. The good news is that in Bucks county, new voter registrations among Democrats exceeded republican registrations and it looks like Bucks County will be helping the Kerry campaign to deliver Pennsylvania. The hopes are that support for Kerry will also translate into wins for US Senate candidate Joe Hoeffel, who is running against Arlen Specter, and Jenny Schrader, who is running for the seat vacated by moderate republican congressman Jim Greenwood, who is becoming a lobbyist. Her opponent, Mike Fitzpatrick, is not a moderate. He's anti choice and will surely become another Tom DeLay lackey.
