Poll: how should we balance concern for human and non-human animals?
Both human and non-human animals face suffering, cruelty, and deprivation. Since there are finite resources available for giving aid, how should we balance the needs of human and non-human animals?  An extreme speciesist might argue that the welfare of humans should always take precedence and that concern for non-humans is almost always misplaced. An extreme animal rights activist might say that every non-human animal (including rats and insects) is as precious as every human. At what point, if at all, does concern for non-human animals become immoral, due to many unmet needs of humans?
