I met him at the Peace and Justice Studies annual conference where we were both speakers.

"Movements, even for social justice, are often complex things, and sometimes have deep inversions that on the surface -- and especially in terms of history and of who writes it -- barely show."

Interview notes:

Definition of movement: Exercising, interrogating, deconstructing, influencing power

Power over vs Power to.

What is Civil Society: Bulwark of the state. The state is set up by civil society--the Bourgeoisie

What is Bourgeoisie

Incivil Society: Rebellious society made up of philosophers, artists, dancers

Don't use uncivil. It uses language of the people who exploit the word.

Parameters, dimensions of Movements:

-inspiration for movements.

Movements are part of the web of life on mother earth.

Interviews :

Possible topics :

  • Well, given the overlap that there evidently is between what you are thinking and writing about ('Bottom-up Connection Consciousness' as a fundamental organising principle, and related questions) and what I'm thinking and writing about (movement as being a fundamental organising principle in life, as an integral part of and manifested in almost every field of human activity and thought; movement as an integral part of the web of life on Mother Earth; movement as being organic and biological and not just 'physical' or 'social'), I would think that we should use the opportunity to at least exchange thoughts on these respective approaches
  • The World Social Forum as an emergent movement
  • The concept and reality of 'open space' as a new concept in movement.

I think that this is about all I should suggest here. And where I think I have to now leave it to you to give the interview more shape. I would appreciate receiving at least a bullet-pointed list of issues / areas you'd like to cover, and at least a few days ahead of the interview so that I can get my mind focused on them.
