W postponed any discussions of ceasing the hemorrhaging of US blood and treasure until his fixer, Baker, came out with his Iraq Study Group Report. When even the guy who stole the 2000 election for W, Baker, couldn't say one decent thing about the incompetent thief W--our shorthand for "Commander-in-Chief", and his insane attack on Iraq, W had to make some adjustments. Big bro 43 hemorrhaged his top Military Staff until he got someone, Gates, who was in the Iraq Study
Group, who was willing to say anything to get back in the game again.

click here notes how Gates easily sheds stances as "Mr. Gates, who endorsed resuming diplomatic contacts with Iran in 2004, two years before he joined the Bush administration, said that Iran's behavior had worsened since then and that resuming diplomatic relations would be possible only when Iran was "prepared to play a constructive role in dealing with some of these problems."

He said Iran "was doing nothing to be helpful" in Iraq, where the American military conducted two recent operations that resulted in the arrest of Iranians who the United States said were suspected of involvement in providing bomb-making materials. He also criticized Iran for aiding Hezbollah in Lebanon."

He also casually mentioned that "Iran was "acting in a very negative way" in the Middle East and that the United States was building up its forces to demonstrate its resolve to remain in the Persian Gulf.

"The Iranians clearly believe that we are tied down in Iraq, that they have the initiative, that they're in a position to press us in many ways," Mr. Gates said, speaking to reporters at NATO headquarters."

Maybe the terrorists don't like occupying forces in their area, and maybe we are getting stuck in a quagmire of W's own making-after all the "Operation Iraqi Freedom" was a pre-emptive war, but W doesn't care. He doesn't care what our losses are as long as he can scare the red staters into believing that only the GOP can protect them against Islamic extremist jihadists who are just about ready to be on our street corners.

The article continues "Delivering that message to Iran - and to allies in the region worried that Washington is consumed with stabilizing Iraq - is one of Mr. Gates's priorities on a trip to the region this week that will take him later to the Persian Gulf.

Senior Pentagon officials said they also planned to stress to the largely Sunni Arab governments worried about Iran that they must assist the United States in Iraq with reconstruction aid and with putting pressure on fellow Sunnis to reach political reconciliation."

The world realizes that the US is now a paper tiger stretched too thin by W's "Crusade".

On January 16th, 2007 the Sunni insurgents implemented some terrifyingly repugnant assaults on the Shiites, who will over course, soon exact revenge at an exponential rate. The Sunnis in the area won't help the US. They will just act in their own self interests. Saudi Arabia is just licking its chops at a chance to battle Iran using Iraq as the battleground, as the Middle East destabilization surges forward.

click here describes Rice's meeting with the 8 Mideast countries and states "The countries, dominated by Sunni Muslims, also welcomed U.S. efforts to rebuild Shiite-led Iraq with an "inclusive political process" and to defend the Persian Gulf....

But though Sunni nations in the region are anxious about the rise of Iran, which, like Iraq, is led by Shiites, some members of the group have resisted suggestions to form a stronger alliance, fearing it could provoke Tehran."

Supposedly we are to appreciate these countries' cooperation, but our biggest ally in the region, Saudi Arabia, supplied the majority of the 9/11 terrorists and sponsored the madrasas which promote hatred of the infidel US.

The article continues "Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al Faisal said his government agreed with Bush's goals. But he stopped short of saying he favored the troop increase.

"We agree with the objectives," said Faisal, whose government is concerned about what it sees as the mistreatment of the Sunni minority in Iraq. "We are hoping these objectives will be implemented, but the means are not in our hands. They are in the hands of the Iraqis themselves."

Not a ringing endorsement but W's crew of experienced prevaricators, including
Rice, know how to get the most out of any statement as "Although she did not claim backing for the specifics of the Bush plan, she told reporters that "there's very good support for the American commitment there.

There's very good support for the objective the president wants to achieve."

Asked about the Saudi foreign minister's comments, she acknowledged: "I do think there's skepticism about whether or not the Iraqi government is going to do the things it says it's going to do.... Everyone is concerned as to the Iraqi willingness now to do all the things that it needs to do."

Gates is spewing the company line and Rice is making a silk purse out of a sow's ear, while every day stuck in this horrible Iraq atrocity causes more losses of lives.
