We are all spectators so to speak. The players are those people that make government policy. In this phony "War on Terrorism", the play-by-play "ringside" announcers are the mainstream media who have decided not only to report the news, but to also "interpret" it for us. We are systematically being programmed so that thinking for ones self can be totally avoided so we can save precious time to attend to the many details that make up our hectic lives in this complicated twenty first century.

It wouldn't really concern me if it were just common everyday people that didn't pay close attention to what is going on in this country and the world, and let the mainstream media do their thinking for them. Generally, it's always been this way. During the American Revolution for example, many people living in the colonies were neutral, many didn't even understand what all the fighting was all about, and they just about ignored the War for Independence until a battle took place near them. As for political knowledge, many women could tell you the names of every person on "The View" but they couldn't tell you who they're Congressman or Senators are. Many men (and women) could tell you who have a chance at getting into the Superbowl and almost all of the wins and losses for each team, but they couldn't tell you how many soldiers we have in Iraq and how many more they might add in this "surge". In fact, many people don't know anything about this "surge", it just doesn't interest them. In fact, it's amazing how many people in this country are just not interested in anything that doesn't affect them personally.

Don't think that because people don't know about what's happening, that they don't care. If a homemaker that is disinterested in the war in Iraq should suddenly be told that her son or daughter were going to be shipped out to the war, it wouldn't take long before she was an expert in where the major hotspots of fighting were in that country. She would also know what's happening with the debate about pulling our troops out of the country. It's amazing how fast one can become an expert in things that affect them personally.

That's why I am totally amazed at the way that Congress is acting. Since the elections, all I have heard from the Democratic leadership is how everything is going to be done in a bi-partisan way, and that they are going to work with their colleagues "across the aisles" and pass needed legislation. Listening to them, you wouldn't even know there was a war going on. Somehow, I get the feeling that Congress just isn't listening to what is going on. You would think that after twelve years of being treated like second class citizen's that the Democrats would be ready for a fight, but it doesn't look that way. There are two carrier groups sitting off the coast of Iran. The United Nations Security Council has just condemned Iran for enriching Uranium and violating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The US claims that it has caught four Iranian combatants in Iraq, and there isn't a word from Congress.

There are things that concern me about a few things. One thing that's been bothering me is why China and Russia went along with the U.S. on the Iranian sanctions. What did Bush promise them? The other thing that bothers me is why did Pelosi and Reid decide that impeachment was off the table? How does Bush get away with everything that he gets away with? The question that I continually ask myself is "What does it take to get Congress to say that the line has been crossed?" What would, in Congresses opinion, warrant impeachment? Why does this President get away with all the things that he has done? He has lied, he has invaded another country, he has caused the needless deaths of more than a half-million people, spent hundreds of billions of dollars with absolutely nothing to show for it, he has also watched as a major city of the United States was almost destroyed in a Category Five hurricane and FEMA failed to help because the director of FEMA was a political appointee with absolutely no experience in emergency preparedness or disaster relief, and he has caused ill will in almost every country in the world because of his blustering threats and unilateral way of resolving problems, isn't that enough? What could he conceivably do to get charged with something? What does he have that Clinton didn't have? How many times will he lie to people and then just shrug his shoulders and put that stupid face on?

What is going to take to make people understand that this administration has taken their most important rights, and thrown them in the toilet? I've told people that under the Military Commission Act of 2006, that if the government declares you a terrorist, that they can arrest you without a reason, throw you in jail without telling you why they are doing it, deny you a lawyer, and hold you as long as they want, and they don't believe it. Of course I live in South Carolina, maybe that has something to do with it.

All want is a little more honesty and less duplicity. If we are going to invade Iran, let this President make his case in front of Congress. I wonder if he invaded Iran unilaterally, on only his authority, would Congress fund that war? I wouldn't be surprised. Nothing surprises me anymore, nothing at all
