Expecting The Bull To Fix The China Shop

Of all the excuses you hear as to why the occupation of Iraq cannot just end, the WEAKEST follow the "but now that we're there" line of apology. You hear people say they agree that it was immoral, wrong, even criminal, and that the invasion was based on nothing by the most despicable, premeditated lies, but they say that now that we're there we have an obligation to fix what we've broken. A bull has as much chance of fixing a china shop he's busted up.

You have heard the so-called pottery barn rule from the mouth of Colin Powell, which is said to be, "you break it, you own it." Well, we broke Iraq alright. And now alot of Americans think we somehow own it. And that is the biggest part of our problem.

Of course George Bush and Dick Cheney thought they owned Iraq even before the invasion. How dare the Iraqi people think they could control their own natural resources. But Iraq belongs to the Iraqis. It never could, and never will, belong to the United States. And the insurgency will continue, without respite, until WE get that essential truth.

You hear people question what our mission in Iraq is, as if nobody really knows anymore. With so many justifications for the war scattered about like shards of shattered pottery, why is it so difficult to grasp what is perfectly obvious? We invaded Iraq to have our military STAY there. That's always been the mission, and there has never been any other mission.

You look at the 14 permanent military bases being built there. You look at an embassy that could pass for the entire Vatican, save for the concrete bomb shelter architecture, and is it such a mystery? Do you think that the Iraqi people don't get it? Is it only the American people who are so gullible, so separated from the horror of what we are actually doing "over there"?

How many women and children must we slaughter while they plead for their lives in broken English, pleading for those about to massacre their family members to understand that they are "friend". How long before we have no friends in Iraq whatsoever, until there is nothing but hatred for what we have done to their once proud country?

We hear that the president and vice-president or Iraq asked as passionately as they could, given their status as puppet executives, for us to set a timetable for withdrawing our troops. They understand even in their tenuous position that it is the U.S. occupation itself which is the problem. It is the occupation itself which is driving the insurgency.

But why should George Bush listen to what the Iraqi people want? He isn't even interested in listening to what the AMERICAN people want. What is that he called us, a "focus group"? Except in Iraq, they don't have focus groups. They blow up cars instead. A clear majority of the American people want us to start bring our troops home NOW. In Iraq, that number is close to 100%. In fact, the only Iraqis who DON'T want us to leave are the terrorists themselves. For them business has never been better.

But still, you hear misguided do-gooders, or those pretending to be do-gooders, bleating on and on about how we have an obligation to fix Iraq FOR the Iraqis. Well, guess what, the Iraqis are perfectly capable of fixing their own country, but they can't even start until until we just leave.

And in the end, that is what we finally must and will do, JUST LEAVE.

The Vietnamese were perfectly capable of fixing their county, and after we finally left, they did it perfectly well. And so it will be in Iraq. The Iraqis will fix it themselves, when we finally renounce ownership of their country, of their oil, and even of their reconstruction. We don't own it, and we're never going to own it, whether we broke it or not.

A bull has as much chance of owning an unbroken china shop.
