Super-Sillyious Students' Suspension in Scranton

Way to go Assistant Superintendent William “The Rules Are Clear” King of the Scranton, Pennsylvania school system!

Two young men, Colin Saltry and Joey Daniel skipped gym class without “authorization” to hop over to a local restaurant where Barack Obama made an impromptu pit stop for breakfast.

If Barack’s stop was impromptu, then a cell phone call or text message -- possibly from a fellow ditcher -- must have also been spur of the moment. How else could they have known?

For this horrid infraction of the rules, both Saltry and Daniel were suspended for an entire day for shortening their school day by a couple of hours. That sounds fair.

It also sounds incredibly rational and makes more sense than I can begin to tell you, to kick kids out of school for missing school only to miss more school. Go figure.

Saltry, who happens to be senior class president was unceremoniously told to turn in his gavel. That’s even more fair. A good kid, a class president, gets doubly punished for ditching an oh-so-educational gym glass for something that’s really educational.

It’s not like these two guys, who don’t seem to be serial ditchers, were escaping campus to burgle or rob a bank.

Saltry admitted it was woth being suspended, but didn’t expect to have his presidency wrested from him.

Well his last name isn’t Bush.

In an irony, and in my opinion an imaginative, brilliant maneuver by the boys, they had Obama sign their absentee slips so they could show them to their teachers.

I hope they kept them for framing.

Out of school for an entire day…a day of education lost, although for these guys it probably won’t matter, because so far I think they’re smarter than the class clowns who wrote rules for which there are no extenuating circumstances.

Who knows, maybe this story will make it onto Keith Olbermann’s Worst Person segment; it’s made national headlines.
