In Defense of David Shuster...Sort Of

One little four-letter word and they want MSNBC's David Shuster's head served on a silver platter as if what he said were as bad Don Imus' slur against the Rutger's women basketball players, or Jesse Jackson referring to New York City as Hymietown.

Okay, pimp is not a nice word, and only Shuster knows what possessed him to ask a panel of political talking heads if the Clinton's were "pimp out" their daughter to advance Hillary's campaign by having her make phone calls to super delegates and celebrities.

It's not like all presidential candidates aren't "pimping out" all their spouses and kids, it you want to think about it that way.

If we're going to be realistic and have been paying attention, the word "pimp" is being used more and more lately for things totally unrelated to sex for profit.

Ever see the cable television show "Pimp My Ride?"

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell that means.

Shuster has apologized twice on air for his thoughtless, tasteless comment.

Keith Olbermann apologized for him, explaining that Shuster had been suspended and wasn't there to do it himself.  While Olbermann apologized for Shuster, he also give him a royal reaming, in the same manner as he excoriates Bush in his "Special Comments" segments.

It wouldn't be surprising if Shuster hasn't already made an apologetic phone call and/or written a letter of apology.

I'd be pissed, too, if someone said the same thing about my daughters,  but I hope I'd be big enough to accept the apologies and drop it.

The Clintons don't ever have to forgive Shuster, but they can drop the subject even it it's given Hillary millions of dollars worth of free publicity.

Suspension, especially a lengthy one, is punishment enough.

Firing Shuster accomplishes nothing except to reap some peevish revenge on him on the part of the Clintons.

Firing Shuster will be temporary at best, because he will show up on CNN or FOX in a couple of months.

Fox would love to have him, especially if he wants to pimp himself out to them.  After all he did zero in on the Clintons for something all the candidates do, and any enemy of Bill and Hill -- perceived or real -- is a Fox Friend.
