Gonzales assistant, Monica Goodling, an "attorney" trained by one of the evangelical fundamentalist training farm schools for right wing extremists, is claiming the fifth.

Her attorney is suggesting that because John Conyers' committee isn't politely responding, "Why, of course, Ma'am, if you don't want to answer questions, why, no problem. Sorry we bothered you." They are being McCarthyesque.

Conyers and company are reasonably saying they want to hear her explanation for claiming the fifth and they point out that a person has the right to use the response to questions, not whole interrogation sessions.

Goodling is legal counsel to Gonzales, with the special job of liaison between the Whitehouse and the Justice department.

Frankly, I hope she refuses to appear before congress and that they put her in jail, just like NY Times reporter JudithMiller was jailed before she finally testified before Patrick Fitzgerald. Frankly, I don't think she has what it takes to be a martyr. I think she'll show up for Conyers and then, his committee will offer her some form of limited immunity, which will force her to talk. That's when it will get interesting. Will Bush get in the picture and claim his right to shut her up? After ahe was talking to him or his people.

This could be entertaining. And remember, this is all new material. Congress has not been going after old stuff. It's not surprising. This administration is so dirty, there's plenty of fresh dirt to work with.

Hmm. While we're speculating about Monica going to jail, could Harriet Meiers and Karl Rove also be put in jail for refusing to testify?

Ahhh. Fantasy is a wonderful thing.
