Everyone, even Noam Chomsky, assumes Bush wants peace. But Bush's actions betray another goal. Before the US invasion of Iraq, Saddam offered not only unlimited inspections, but actually bringing the US Army into Iraq to search. Bush refused. Bush preferred an invasion.

After Bush spurned diplomatic relations with Iran, the Iranian gov't. asked the Swiss Ambassador to carry an offer to stop enriching uranium in exchange for negotiations with the Bush Admin. Bush not only refused the Iranian offer to stop enriching uranium, he censured the Swiss Ambassador for bringing the offer.

When Clinton had negotiated with the North Korean gov't. to halt uranium enrichment in exchange for fuel and food shipments, Bush halted the shipments, and forced N. Korea to resume making bomb materials until Sec. of State Rice finally relented with shipments of food and fuel. The result: eight new nukes in N. Korea.

Clinton negotiated an agreement with the Russian gov't. to buy their stored nuclear weapons, eliminating thousands of bombs and missiles. Bush canceled the agreement and now those weapons are vulnerable to corruption, poverty, and terrorist acquisition.

Before the first Gulf War, Cheney and Rumsfeld sold Saddam the only weapons of mass destruction Saddam ever had. Cheney and Rumsfeld also sold the Iranians nuclear technology, perhaps setting Iran up for confrontation later, when a "tidy little war" was needed to justify this year's $650 billion defense budget.

Bush profits from human suffering and death.
He encourages crisis, conflict, and catastrophe. Look at New Orleans. Look at our infrastructure. Every week in Iraq we spend enough to rebuild six states' bridges. Our control of Iraqi oil production has reduced it's exports. Gas prices in the US have tripled under Bush, even though there is no shortage.

Look at the reduced budget for EPA enforcement. Bush has allowed an increase in mercury discharges into the atmosphere, water diverted from salmon to grass seed farms-- killing 75 thousand wild salmon, increases of hog waste in our rivers, cuts in local police funds. Now, Bush is allowing British Petroleum to increase it's discharge of mercury and sludge into Lake Michigan, the source of Chicago's drinking water.

America's great strength is invention and innovation. Yet oil companies pushing buggy-whip technologies dominate our gov't. and foreign policy. We could easily replace petroleum with vegetable oils, with other innovative technologies, but instead we send billions of dollars overseas to countries that support terrorism because the oil companies maintain a monopoly on fuels in this country. This has created a war without ethical or rational justification and a continuing threat of catastrophic climate change.

Under Bush, the US has allowed increased clear-cutting old-growth forest, the source of critical biodiverse habitat that keeps us alive, when we could easily grow fiber-producing plants, use their oil for fuel and stop cutting our national forest for toilet paper.

At every opportunity Bush creates crisis, conflict, and catastrophe because his friends make their money not from peace and prosperity, but war, debt, suffering, death, curtailing our rights and dumping their production costs on our environment.

Yesterday, Indianapolis, Indiana, a hotbed of terrorism, was the site of TSA and US Marshalls searching passengers and packages on city bus stops. If passengers' papers were in order, Bush's Gestapo allowed them to continue on their way to work. Bush has also contracted with KBR to build detention centers across the US. For the first time in our history, "Free-Speech Zones were constructed behind barbed-wire fences outside halls where Bush was speaking.
Everything Bush has done, including the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act, must be abolished. He is not accountable to the American people. He doesn't care what we think. And as a result, we don't care what he thinks. He, Cheney and Gonzales have to go.

They have strengthened our enemies, sacrificed our lives and usurped our rights-- and gotten rich in the process. Of course, they are the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic Party-- but they are also the best thing that ever happened to Al Quaeda, Halliburton and Exxon..
