It's nervous time for you good folks of Connecticut. For the Ned Lamont anti-Bush Dems, the Joe Lieberman pro-Bush Dems, and the thousands of newly 'affiliated' Dems who'll face-off in the hot Senate smackdown on Tuesday, August 8th. And voters please remember, this smackdown is YOURS. It may be their faces. But it's fully your fight. Their 'label'. YOUR state! Lieberman and Lamont are the front men. They have one vote apiece. 'You guys' have millions.
So what will you do?
The status quo? Six more years of Joe? Ahead with Ned? No more blood be shed? Which shall it be?
California, the supposed bastion of progressive politics, let the progressive tide roll right on by and re-elected Bush Democrats to support and maintain the status quo. The world was horrified when America re-installed Bush in 2004, and horrified again on June 6th when Californians nixed real proponents of change to reunite puppets with their faux Democratic seats.
And don't think the world isn't watching YOU, too, Connecticuters. The United States may reek of Foxed-out-louts waiting for WMD, but around the world millions are savvy to the politics of the planet's most dominant super-power. They watch closely, hoping for signs of change. Instead, thanks in no small part to lovely California, they're seeing more of the same. They know the leanings of our politicians better than most Americans do. And they understand that the re-election to Congress of a pro-war Democrat like Jane Harman means America has minimal desire to change.
For the entire Bush presidency, Senator Joe Lieberman and Representative Jane Harman have been front and center, playing powerful roles in Administration policy. Most egregious of all, the War on Iraq.
In just under six years, as Ms. Harman and Mr. Lieberman sat loftily on their Congressional thrones, super-power America, misguided by the world's most powerful man, has become the scourge of the planet. Bombs drop in every corner. Murder and mayhem abound in every land. Friends and neighbors are foes. Buildings are rubble. Families are broken. Children are dead. And the whole world is watching.
Californians failed terribly on June 6th by re-electing militant Democrats Jane Harman, Howard Berman and Adam Schiff, when their Progressive challengers, Marcy Winograd, Charles Coleman and Bob McCloskey offered honest alternatives to Bush's perpetual war.
Winograd, in particular, waged a valiant effort against Harman, with zero support from the Democratic Party machine. Although she was blocked from mainstream media, she succeeded in her short three month campaign to attract national attention, and on election day received nearly 38% of the vote. She built coalitions throughout Los Angeles' 36th Congressional District and roused constituents with her message of peace, freedom, and an end to the blasphemy of Constitutional abuse.
In the end, due in large part to low voter turnout and a too short campaign, Winograd lost her bid to bring to Congress her well considered plans for global and domestic improvement. We Californians negligently failed the nation and left Washington perilously the same.
In a mere two months since California's June 6th primary, the world has changed even more drastically. It's more dangerous and growing worse every day, which makes your responsibility as Connecticuters more critical than ever before. You're charged with a huge responsibility. You can elect Ned Lamont and give America an alternative to the Lieberman/Bush politics of global destruction, or you can fail America and the world like we Californians have done.
The Quinnipiac University poll taken on Thursday shows Ned Lamont 13 points ahead of Joe Lieberman. But polls mean nothing if voters don't vote. Don't blow it. Go to the polls. Bring change to Connecticut and to Washington, DC. The whole globe is watching. Show it America seeks to make change. Show it Americans don't re-elect those who've jeopardized our nation and our world.
Go Connecticuters. Show Californians the way that it's done!!
