IMPEACH, REMOVE AND PROSECUTE ALBERTO GONZALEZ NOW. Here is the message that went to my reps: I am but one of tens of millions of Americans who is absolutely sick and tired of what is being said, decided and done in the name of the United States by the most corrupt presidential administration in the history of our country. We are also absolutely sick and tired of the fact that OUR Congress, elected by US, to serve OUR interests, paid with OUR tax dollars, to serve as a co-equal branch of OUR government and maintain OVERSIGHT of the Executive Branch, has completely failed in its sacred responsibility to properly serve in the interest of the American people. The assertion by Mr. Gonzalez that there is no fundamental right of habeas corpus because it is not explicitly stated in the Constitution is asinine on its face, and must represent the last in a long line of transgressions that finally moves Congress to action in the effort to give us the effective representation we are supposed to have in Washington. Proof that Gonzalez is hopelessly wrong in his assertion regarding habeas rests in two places in our Constitution. First, the Sixth Amendment: "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense." Second, the Ninth Amendment: "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." The Attorney General is supposed to be the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. Instead, Mr. Gonzalez has conducted himself as if he were George W. Bush's personal lawyer, assisting in the creation of and then publicly defending wholly unconstitutional, indeed criminal Bush policy. This behavior is completely unacceptable. He is not serving the interests of the American people. He is serving the interests of a select few, in a painfully corrupt executive branch that is hell-bent on absolute power and must be stopped.
