The death of 32 innocent civilians in Iraq barely even gets reported these days. At best –worst ?- it’s simply folded into the endless string of senseless slaughter and counted as one of those days you and I can “go for a stroll in Bagdad”. As days in Bagdad go, it’s a “statistical improvement”.
The outraged, grief-stricken American people who think we need to remain in Iraq need to think hard. How would you feel were your children being slaughtered like this on a daily basis? Do you think the Iraqi people feel any less outrage at the death of their children? Would this have happened, and be happening on a daily basis had Bush not given the finger to the United Nations after they refused to authorize what he’s doing? Is the value of innocent life dependant on it’s location? Is a life worth less somewhere else, than it is here? Is the feeling of outrage at the loss of innocent life, of family and children “tempered” when you go eastward?
Take whatever outrage, shock, and contempt you feel towards the psychopath who just murdered 32 kids at Virginia Tech, and multiply it by 3,125 times. No, that is not the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq. It’s close, but not what it is this time. It’s what you get when you divide one hundred thousand innocent people, by 32. What was it that was said about all of this? Oh yes: "We must win their hearts and minds". Right. What did today do to yours?
Think about this and you can step into a pair of Iraqi shoes for a moment. Do you feel “free”? Do you still think they want us there? Think about it. If you even can think.
