Article: The President Doesn't Need Congressional Approval to Attack Iran

Let us just call them the “Mudville Democrats”. They strike out almost every time they come to bat. The resolution against a troop escalation called a “surge” by the politicians became a non-binding resolution. Then, after it got torpedoed by Republicans that pulled the wool over the Democrats eyes, it turned into a talking point that seemed to say “our intentions were good, we can’t help it if the Republicans are so mean”.

Yes Dorothy, the Republicans are mean. They don’t like to play nicey nice. They are out to win. They have an agenda, and all you have is your collective thumbs up your butts. This has got to stop. You were not elected to “go along to get along”. Get off of your ass and listen to that nerdy Congressman from Ohio that’s making all of you glamorous superstars look like skinny kids at the beach with the big Republican lifeguards kicking sand in your faces. Kucinich knows what he wants, what the people want, but sadly, you Democrats aren’t listening. How many times do you have to get knocked down to realize that you are playing a losing game here.

It seems as if there are Republicans and then there are the other guys. The ones that can’t get their story straight. Look, if you support the troops, and by supporting the troops you support the war...then say so. Don’t tell us in November that you oppose the war and then fund it, actually giving the President more money than he asked for! Do you know what happens when you give a child mixed messages? It’s called a double-bind. The kid doesn’t know what the hell is up and usually he or she turns schizophrenic or into a sociopath. We aren’t kids, but I can see how that could happen. I know that my anger level is rising, and I’m sure a lot more people than me feel the same way.

So you are giving the President war powers until September, 2008. What’s supposed to happen then? Does it become the next President’s problem? Why not get the troops home now? Haven’t enough people died yet? What is the “death threshold” for pulling out? Is it so important to giver him his way until 2008, that you will allow him to attack Iran without consulting Congress? The reason the politicians are giving is that the Israeli’s are nervous about Iran and they don’t want to tie up the Presidents hands and make the Israelis a little more nervous. This is what a Democratic Congresswoman said: “Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., said in an interview there is widespread fear in Israel about Iran, which is believed to be seeking nuclear weapons and has expressed unremitting hostility about the Jewish state.

I really don’t care what Israel is experiencing. I care about what the American people are experiencing. What they are going through is uncertainty about this war, the war on terror and the sacrifice of American freedom that was supposedly guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The way it stands now, I personally have less freedom since the Twin Towers fell. I found out that the government was tapping our citizen’s phones and reading their e-mail as well as snooping on their computers. They can call me a terrorist and come in my house without a warrant when I’m not home and go through all of my personal papers. They don’t even have to tell me they did it! I can just disappear and end up in Syria getting tortured, all they have to do is say I’m a terrorist.

Why do you need top fund this series of Presidential mistakes? You aren’t doing the soldiers any favors. They flat out don’t want to be there. Bush is actively supporting Al Qaeda in some areas, rendering people into Syria and at the same time and calling them criminals. Well if they are criminals, then what is an administration that does business with them?

Start listening to your constituents. This con-job can’t go on forever. It’s almost too late to save the Democratic Party. Nobody loves a loser. I don’t make this stuff up.
