First, let me make it clear that I am a New Yorker, the first 27 years of my life spent enmeshed and in love with The City. So whatever I may believe about the origin of the tragedy of 9-11 is irrelevant to the derivative tragedy that New York?s finest?its police and firefighters?could be allowed to languish in an illness clearly contracted during their heroic rescue activities on that fateful day and the subsequent months of search and cleanup. And the idea that neither NYC nor the federal government has made almost no effort to genuinely help these individuals should make all loyal Americans wonder about the motivations of the Bush and Bloomberg administrations. And, in my opinion, you can toss the "presidential" Giuliani in for good measure. Lotta rhetoric, little response.
