The time has passed: The sorrows remain
It is regrettable that the time has passed upon the impeachment or drawing of the Administration ( Bush, Cheney ) ( and of course Rove, Gonzales, etc). Time to next Administration, The Congress cannot move forward absent a dramatic shift...especially in the Senate where simple majorities can be mustered-- but not the majority necessary for impeachment-- or even to continue a reasoned plan for Iraq and the American people. Democratic control was a misnomer--sure there was the shift of chairmanships--but not effective legislation-- or inquiry--at all times met with a Chief Executive in Bush , Cheney, & Company citing the Constitutional prerogatives and rights as if there wasn't a transgression--but more than that an arrogance that there are the votes in Congress and the Senate reflective of the aspirations of the people.
I agree the world Court should deal with the rascals the day they are set out of office. at least then they will prove the vitality of the order of democracy; that there is a peaceful transition of the government.
Of course that will never be in Iraq. Theirs is a course of national government being protected by local national brigades being violently overthrown and executed. If we look at the course of events in the last century-- since the post WWI British 'new State"-- the Sadaam government lasted decades through in part despot powers and adept international attention. But eventually the violence took the leadership, and the normalcy of executions and retributions arose again.
And so rose the peoples passions, and temperatures, and realization that it wasn't just lies, misjudgments and calculated political facsimiles of the ethos of America-- and our natural state that there be "One Nation Under God" there bears the tolerances of mankind with the freedoms of life , liberty and pursuits of happiness,--with those great horizons, rivers, resources, and a ingenuity paralleled to great nations and times.
None of that came to Iraq. Are the people better off since "liberation"?
Do they have running water, and the fruits and vegetables, or are there concrete barriers, segregating and severing a nation even further without ever recognizing where the liabilities of war must be attended. Do they have a government that can deliver mail, build roads, and apartments...even a new Baghdad, exemplifying the ingenuity of that great nation and its 5000 year culture....
say Bush and his Buddy Dick are a driving a tank-- and it goes right through your house, and your neighbors , and your neighbor's neighbor. There is a liability to any action-- for example, the liability of restoring a nation....and promulgating war through a linkage with "global terrorism".
And of course they just drive their tanks.....which is not what we are as Americans. They have no idea of engineering. Or that the weapons of war are implements of peace...
And of course if they has elections today, they overwhelmingly vote against this policy...
But alas if angels sang their harmonies for peace and time, the devils would not hear their songs.
