A SENIOR Hamas official warned yesterday that the next breakout from the Gaza Strip could be INTO Israel, with 500,000 Palestinians attempting to march towards the towns and villages from which they or their parents fled or were expelled 60 years ago.
"This is not an imaginary scenario and many Palestinians would be prepared to sacrifice their lives," said Ahmed Youssef, political adviser to Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniya.
It seems what goes around comes around , and the role reversals of history , real or imagined, return to haunt and inform us!
The Palestinians (the orignal occupants of the Land of Milk and Honey) are now fleeing their Israeli oppressors BACK into Egypt for protection and safety. It's the Exodus of the Bible in reverse, in every way. It's one big potential Gaza-dus and much of the world is, in fact, openly or secretly cheering for the Palestinians. We tend to like our underdogs even when it's David against Goliath where Goliath is now the pip squeek and David is the Ogre to be reminded of his arrogance and lack of compassion. I hope someone is writing this down for a future religion! Once into Egypt, the Palestinians need to have someone go up the Mountain and return with some rules to live by and then force everyone to abide by them or else. That's how it works.
Thirty five hundred years ago Israeli folklore and exaggeration informs us that, as the chosen people, they were lead out of their oppression FROM Egypt TO Palestine. Now we have those previously put out by the incoming Israelites fleeing BACK to EGYPT where the Israelites came FROM. Israel now assumes the role of the pushy Pharaoh from the land they were pushed to by the orginal pushy Pharaoh. Very strange.
Oi Veh! Minister Vilna'i sounds like the Pharaoh of Egypt letting the troublesome Israelites go, but again with a reversal of historical roles.
Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Matan Vilna'i said yesterday the breakout into Egypt was an opportunity for Israel to rid itself of its responsibility to supply Gaza with electricity and water and to serve as a channel for Gaza's imports and exports. "When Gaza is open to the other side we lose responsibility for it," he said. "We want to disconnect from it."
Now that's something a Pharaoh, anxious to get ride of a problem people in the land would say!
Now we have a brewing scenario that, if Palestinians growing discontent with Egypt, or Egyptian officials with them continues, we can expect 500,000 (a number of Biblical proportions and not much less than those of the orignal Exodus) Palestinians to exit Egypt and pour into their confiscated lands in Israel...the Old New Promise Land for them. And thus the circle of history is complete! It could also be a good case of "be sure your sin will find you out," deja vu in history all over again in reverse, or a quirky visit from the Karma Fairy
One would think that a people whose persecution started with the surrounding of Warsaw Ghetto in WWII, as a prelude to what was to follow, would not be so quick to pass the same example on to those that they dislike in their own land. Seems nothing has been learned here.
It seems the Germans were to the Warsaw Ghetto as Israelis now are to Gaza. Not a good move in the "what we learned from history" school. I suppose this might be considered as "Do unto someone else as you feel was done unto you." It's going to blow up in their faces however as the Biblical history of Israel is meant to remind us that surpressing people in need of life's necessities as they sturggle to survive with their families and children is unwise in the exteme.
When people have little left to lose, they break out and find their courage to push the Caaninites from the Promised Land. How ironic that the world is beginning to view Israelis as the oppressive Canaanites of the Land and the Palestinians as those who will rewrite the story of the Exodus into the Gaza-dus.
Let my people go still plays in the real world.
