The G.O.P. Has the Machine...the Voting Machine

In addition to alerts about voter purging in Ohio, as reported by Op-ed News, there are an alarming number of red flags popping up around the country that suggest that republicans are going to borrow a trick from Saddam Hussein and hijack the vote. Velvet Revolution keeps track of the mounting fraudulent tricks, but what happened to John Kerry in Ohio is only the beginning.

What, you don't believe me? You don't think republicans will steal your vote? They protected a pedophile to protect their majority in the House. To them you're just a maggot, an inconvenience, and our electoral democracy is an antiquated gimmick that was created by young, hopelessly idealistic left wing, radical liberals like Benjamin Franklin and George Washington.

I hope you 're not sick of this Congress. I hope you enjoy it when your tax dollars fund cocaine parties for the young scions of the millionaires who won no-bid contracts to rebuild Iraq. I hope you're happy that your tax dollars pay for blowjobs 18-year-olds are giving sleazy tycoons who have made millions at Halliburton since we invaded Iraq. That's where your tax money is going, and the republicans who are sending it there have been elected permanently.

Do you want to get off this ride because it's getting a little scary? A little out of control? It's not going to happen, friend. It's not going to get safe and comfortable. You better steel yourself for chaos. You better stop thinking about warm idyllic redoubts from this cold hard world. The bloodthirsty are never satiated. The greedy are never pacified. They got into power and they don't ever want to leave.

The republicans are counting on you to shut up. They're betting you'll be too scared to challenge them. They don't think you have the guts to bring a video camera into the voting booth to record the Diebold machine as it changes your vote. They are confident that when they steal this election, you'll believe in phantoms, because they are going to hold their majority even when 75 percent of this country wants change.

They hope you'll just close your curtains, rock back and forth with your pillow and sing lullabies because you'd rather be comfortable than dead. They expect the land of the free, and the home of the brave to be nothing but a big swath of disgrace, inhabited by pushovers and crybabies. They think they can destroy democracy and reduce it to nothing but a fiction; a word drained of its contents and propped up with flags, medals, slogans and fairy tales.

Warriors don't eat cake. Cake might be fluffy and tasty and easy to eat, but it's vacuous and it softens the insides of the weaklings who wolf it down. In the same way, patriots don't care for the word, "democracy." It means nothing, does nothing, and governs nothing if it's only a word. American warriors, defending the heritage of our forefathers, live on the substance of democracy, and the very life grain of our democracy is our vote. Take that away, and we are as doomed as all those Iraqis whom we felt sorry for when Saddam Hussein claimed victory with 98 percent of the vote.

But give us that vote. Give us the substance of democracy, and we will throw the yoke of incompetence from our backs. We will scourge the politicians who swindled our money for their friends in Big Oil, Big Pharma and Big Contracting. We will settle the score of inequity that fools, liars and false prophets have sowed. We will unseat the tyrants who had mistaken our democracy for their own personal tyranny, who came to Washington thinking that the bloodline of their family could secure them a throne.

Well that's not how we do things in America. The GOP has invented a convenient smoke screen to cover their planned hijacking of the elections. They are touting the supposedly gigantic size of their get-out-the-vote machine. On October 15, the Times reported that republicans had volunteers in all 88 counties in Ohio calling 100,000 voters and knocking on 50,000 doors. They failed to report how many of these "carefully picked" voters are sick of the republicans' games. They failed to report how many of these voters have no intention of voting for a party that delivers them nothing but bad news. The republicans just hope that enough thoroughly under-reported stories like this one will convince Americans that the elections were legitimate.
