American democracy is ruled by two political parties commonly called the Democratic and Republican parties. But we can functionally call these parties Them and Not Them. Them is the party in power while Not Them is the party seeking power. Essentially, both political parties run on a single issue. This issue is that each party claims it is not the other party.
