Since I make no claim to be a music reviewer, consider this is a mini-review, or better still, a "sharing" of my enjoyment of Phil Roy's music. Last winter, I went to a Leon Russell Concert. Leon was one of the performers at George Harrison's Bangladesh concert, and he wrote great rock and blues for other performers as well as being a great keyboard and singing artist. This grey longhaired rocker is still a great performer. His gravelly voice , solid keyboards and good 'ol rock'n roll were superb.

Before Russell went on, Phil Roy opened for him-- and I loved his music. During the break, while Leon Russell's crew set up, I picked up two of Roy's CDs. Little did I realize that they would become my two favorites while I was in the car, driving. He's a little bit blues, a little bit rock, a lot ballad, a bit country and folk, a bit like Leon Russel, more like Leonard Cohen. The song I linked to, above, Melt, is one of his best. It seems that I can't listen to this song too many times. Roy's discography reports that his songs have been performed by Aaron Neville, Joe Cocker, Mavis Staples, the Neville Brothers and many more. Then, last week, I was reading a copy of Business week, and there, after reading the news that globalistic economic policies have caused the US economy to be no longer controllable by the US, I found a review of Phil Roy's newest CD. Check him out at PhilRoy.com Both of his first two albums have a version of MELT on them. Get them both for $20. You'll be glad you did.
