Since July when we filed the lawsuit against Georgia > voting that cannot be verified, audited or recounted many good things > have happened: > * Three candidates, a Democrat, a Republican and an independent > write-in candidate have agreed to join our suit; > * The governor requested that the Secretary of State prepare a > proposal for implementing voter verified paper ballot audit trails; > * The Secretary of State reversed her position twice that all voting > machines would have to be replaced to implement secure printers for > audit trails; > * All three of our major opponents who blocked statewide voter > verified paper ballot audit trails were soundly defeated in the 2006 > elections; > * The Elections Director who adamantly opposed our legislative > initiatives has resigned and been hired by Diebold; > * The State Election Board held three public hearings on the flawed > audit trail pilot and appear suppportive of our cause; > * An Election Board member publlicly told the AJC that the 2006 > elections will probably be the last held on DRE equipment; > * We have established a working relationship with the State Eleciton > Board and they seem willing to listen to us; > * The incoming Secretary of State met with us bduring her campaign > and appears willing to address our issues; > * We have gained national and local media coverage on television, > radio, newspapers and web based outlets. > > We are well on our way to victory in a suit that will take Georgia from > worst to first nationally in voting system implementation but we still > have one major roadblock. We must make our next legal payment by the end > of the year to continue this fight and we are a couple of thousand > dollars short.
