Who are the leading progressives in America today?

I am working on another article, where I'm contacting leading progressives. As I went through the process of contacting some of the people I consider leading progressives who I have emails for, I did some research and some googling. There's not that much out there and the lists I found were not very satisfying. They listed big media people-- MSNBC hosts, Michael Moore,-- but left out activists.

So I'm going to you for your help.

Now, my goal is to identify living progressive, as opposed to liberal leaders. As part of my goal, I'd like your thoughts on what's the difference between a progressive and a liberal. Some people have been pretty critical of liberals, like Chris Hedges, in his book, Death Of The Liberal Class.

Some people classed as liberals, rather than progressives, are leaders of Moveon, Van Jones. What do you think?

Who are the progressives you think of when you think of progressive leaders?

Please list them in a comment, and, if possible include a link to their website or something written by or about them.

My list of progressives I've already written to includes:

Thom Hartmann,  Noam Chomsky, Jane Hamsher,    Danny Schechter,   Kevin Zeese,  Kevin Gosztola (a leading under 25 progressive-- any more suggestions for younguns?),  John Nichols,  Cindy Sheehan  (these have already replied and I'll be using their responses in my article. I'll be updating the responder list as responses come in.) and Markos Moulitsas,  Margaret Flowers, Daniel Ellsberg, Chris Hedges, Glen Ford, Glenn Greenwald,, Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Medea Benjamin, Jodie Evans, Debra Sweet,, Naomi Wolf, Naomi Klein, David Swanson, Ray McGovern, Ann Wright, Rocky Anderson, Rabbi Michael Lerner, Rabbi Arthur Waskow, Greg Palast.

more detailed bio:

Rob Kall has spent his adult life as an awakener and empowerer-- first in the field of biofeedback, inventing products, developing software and a music recording label, MuPsych, within the company he founded in 1978-- Futurehealth, and founding, organizing and running 3 conferences: Winter Brain, on Neurofeedback and consciousness, Optimal Functioning and Positive Psychology (a pioneer in the field of Positive Psychology, first presenting workshops on it in 1985) and Storycon Summit Meeting on the Art Science and Application of Story-- each the first of their kind. Then, when he found the process of raising people's consciousness and empowering them to take more control of their lives one person at a time was too slow, he founded Opednews.com-- which has been the top search result on Google for the terms liberal news and progressive opinion for several years. Rob began his Bottom-up Radio show, broadcast on WNJC 1360 AM to Metro Philly, also available on iTunes, covering the transition of our culture, business and world from predominantly Top-down (hierarchical, centralized, authoritarian, patriarchal, big) to bottom-up (egalitarian, local, interdependent, grassroots, archetypal feminine and small.) Recent long-term projects include a book, Bottom-up-- The Connection Revolution, (more...)
