Who Are Our Masters?

By Rafe Pilgrim OpEd News

Many of us can recall Butch Cassidy repeatedly asking of the Sundance Kid, and perhaps the Lord: "Who are those guys?"

Similarly, it would appear that we do not know who our real Masters, the ultimate Masters are.

Democratic, socialistic and communistic ideologues would submit that the Masters of their societies are the Citizens, that is the People. But to believe this, one would need to overlook the abuse the People have suffered under any of these forms in the history of the past one hundred years, and ask if indeed the People had invited such.

There is some support for the downside of this notion from the scholar who offered: "A people has the government it deserves, and from one whose name I do remember, Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he is us." But these dictums fall short of conclusiveness in that there are others who do recognize their inherent truth, and extend their utility by additional means in pursuit of greed, lust for power, or madness. So yes, we may deserve our fate but we --the deluded, obtuse and of the penchant to not get involved --do not manufacture the purposeful treachery that besets us.

These abuses flow from what have proved to be manipulations and outright lies promoted by governments in pursuit of gains by other than the People and at the People's expense. Examples of these include spurious reasons for war to the profit of the weapons makers, the burgeoning security business, theoil cartel, bankers and investment houses, et al.
