White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki backtracking now saying Russian invasion of Ukraine no longer imminent
Finally...the White House, through its spokeswoman Jen Psaki explained the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine wasn't "imminent" saying it was sending an unintended message.
At yesterday's press briefing she said, "I used it once. I think others have used that once, and we stopped using it because I think it sent a message that we weren't intending to send, which was that we knew that President Putin had made a decision".
"I would say the vast majority of times I've talked about it, I've said he could invade at any time".
Psaki's remarks came after US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield in an interview on NPR said regarding the word imminent, "No, I would not say that we are arguing that it's imminent".
As to Psaki using the word imminent during a January 25 briefing regarding whether the Russia invasion of Ukraine was imminent she replied, " When we said it was imminent, it remains imminent". Going further she said, "Well 'imminent' has a pretty intense meaning. Doesn't it? Then to a follow up question she responded, "And it's still the belief that it's imminent".
Why am I dwelling on the word "imminent"? Because it simply means "about to happen".
