The 'politicos' continue to make predictions about the 2014 mid-term elections. Most Americans consider elections held in non-presidential election years a waste of time. The fact is, they may be more important than 2016.
Congress' approval rating is just over or under ten percent, depending on the week the poll is taken. Because most Americans vote along party lines, even if the candidate was a serial killer, some assumptions can be made about the results in less than nine months.
Democrats cannot rely on the coattails of the president. Many, such as myself, are disappointed that he failed to keep promises which prompted me to vote for him. There is a distinct possibility that both the House and Senate could be in Republican control in January, 2015.
Even during the worst administration in our history from 2000 until 2008, I praised conservatives for banding together, supporting their president. But, will that be the case in 2014. Will Republicans unite and help ensure a conservative victory? At this point in time, it seems doubtful.
The GOP is split into three factions. The true conservatives who have ideas and a desire for the betterment of all Americans are the smallest of the groups. The TEA Party is becoming stronger as more corporate money is backing their candidates. The third group, those I call 'carpet baggers,' have one goal in mind; reelection, until they are offered a more lucrative job in the private sector. This last group will say or do anything, or not say or do anything, whatever it takes to cajole their constituents to vote for them.
In the 2014 election, listening to predictions may be more of a waste of time than usual. If I am any example, my voting strategy will be different.
I will not be voting for a candidate from either major party. I will vote for third party candidates, if I deem them worthy. If I do not, I will use what is available to me in Nevada, "none of the above.'
The voting age was reduced to 18 long after I passed that age. I voted when I was able to when I turned 21, and I must say that my vote seldom counted. Thanks to the "electoral college,' I wasted much of my time going to and from my polling place.
Unfortunately the situation has worsened. Even if the candidates I chose to vote for won, they promises were proven to be no more than "hot air.'
I predict that what we will see out of the 2014 election will be a portent to disaster, giving us an even more ineffectual government. The 112th and 113th Congresses will go down as the most "do-nothing' in our history.
