What If The "Good" Guy With A Gun Turns Out To Be A Bad Guy?

Today we will address with systematic logic the "good guy with a gun" theory which is the NRA's knee jerk answer to every latest mass assault weapon massacre. What's wrong with it?
In the first place, to stop the mass murders we are the victims of now, it cannot just be any gun in the hands of that "good" guy. If we let any potential terrorist, of ANY religion or none, walk in off the street and walk out with a military assault rifle and a high capacity magazine, they are not going to be stopped cold by a one shot hand gun.
The reality is there WAS a good guy with a gun there in FL, an off duty officer working as a bouncer, who returned fire as best as he could and called for and got back up immediately from two more officers, and STILL 50 people were killed.
People in the actual military have a familiar expression for this situation, being "out-gunned." It took an entire SWAT team 3 hours to take down one Omar in FL. So whoever that theoretical good guy is, waiting for Omar to show up, they would at a minimum have to be armed to the teeth in the same way.
And that already demonstrates the second problem. We don't know what venue Billy Bob Omar is going to target with his assault rifle(s).
So we'd need to have not just one "good" guy with an assault rifle, but multiple "good" guys, in every night club, every theatre, at every music performance indoors or out, in every classroom or office, every church and bible study, every restaurant, every airport terminal, train station, you name it, just to make sure we stop a handful of Omars capable of killing thousands in a stopped heartbeat.
Just to effectively stop ONE Omar, under the good guy with a gun theory, requires EVERYBODY in the country to be carrying an assault rifle at all times. Welcome to the NRA's vision of a weapons of mass murder sales paradise, and a deadly coast to coast war zone for the rest of us.
Where are all these good guys with assault rifles going to come from to be on constant duty like this? Do the kindergarten teachers and bible study ladies need to pack their own heat and have their hands on an assault rifle with the safety off at all times?
They'd never be able to put their weapon down, you know. Because if they did for one instant, some Adam or James or Omar could walk in and get the drop on them and then it's goodbye good guy or gal.
Or worse, at the same time let's say they do lay their weapon aside for moment. Then any Mr. Mentally Ill who happened to be there could just make a grab for that assault rifle and start shooting everybody else, no gun show or internet sale required.
And another thing, how does Mr. Good Assault Rifle know, if sees another guy walk in with an assault rifle, that the OTHER guy is not a bad guy? They'd both have to constantly point their weapons at each other just to be on guard. In the Middle East our own weapons training instructors live in constant fear of one of their "troops" turning their weapons back on them. What if both "good" guys are actually bad guys? Now you've got an instant terrorist cell.
Is all this lunatic enough for you yet?
Let's say you're the manager of the Pulse night club in Orlando, and you want to protect your customers to the max. So you call up a prominent security guard service connected with the Department of Homeland Security, JUST LIKE the one the mass murderer in FL worked for AS A PROFESSIONAL SECURITY GUARD. And you request someone with a military assault rifle and a high capacity magazine and they say, "Sure, we'll send over Omar tonight, he just bought one the other day." And Omar waits until the place is packed after he is welcomed in with his assault rifle, and then, wap, wap, wap, wap, a hundred plus more times.
The simple, inescapable point is that NOBODY can know a priori who is a good guy and who is a bad guy. If you walk into a room and there is someone there with a gun, how do you know THAT person is not a bad guy, or that they are not one trigger pull away from going berserk? Will you make a prejudicial racial judgment? What about the murderers in Aurora, in Sandy Hook? They were ordinary looking white guys. How would you have spotted them . . . or maybe orange hair just screams psycho to you?
The moral of the story is that more and more assault rifles on the street do not make us more safe. They make us more UNSAFE, increasing the possibility of them getting into the wrong hands, not even counting the inevitable increase in accidents. It's a false security that in fact makes us all more insecure.
There is only one answer and real solution, NOBODY not in the military should be allowed to own an automatic OR semi-automatic assault rifle. We had a ban from 1994 to 2004, which only stopped NEW sales of certain models, and even with many crippling limitations it DID reduce the number of these horrific crimes. But since that ban was recklessly allowed to expire the numbers have shot up to new highs.
So if you agree that we have already gone too far in the wrong direction of turning America into a free for all shooting gallery, by handing out high powered military assault rifles like candy to every Tom, Dick and Omar.
