Did you know that the salaries of those hypocrites in Congress who were directly involved with the creation of the horrific sequester legislation that will adversely affect many millions of their fellow Americans are entirely exempted from that process? That all the members of Congress can continue to pocket money that they haven't earned, while their fellow Americans suffer from the cowardly, unconscionable actions that they have taken?

This is something between ironic and totally nauseating. If anyone in Washington or, for that matter in this entire country, should have their salaries cut to reduce government spending, it is this group of political misfits (with a few notable exceptions) that does absolutely nothing to earn them. They should be the first to feel the axe of sequestration but they won't because they are protected. Here's a link to an article that explains why those in Congress will be exempted from salary cuts under that misguided legislation.

These "ne'er do wells" together with President Obama are directly responsible for failing to come up with appropriate spending reductions that would have prevented across the across the board reductions that affect so many elements and sectors of this country. Those who "lead" these two branches of the government gave it their usual feeble, lackluster effort and, once again, took the easy way out. So the result is that, as has happened time and again, politics has prevailed over the welfare of the people; and it will be the people who will suffer the consequences that will follow.

What's happening here is beyond comprehension. The American people didn't create any part of this national crisis, they aren't responsible in any way except for remaining too silent and submissive. But yet they are the ones who will now feel the brunt of these spending cuts. And the real culprits, those in Congress who have caused all this out of control spending and reckless management of the taxpayer's money, simply have resolved themselves of any blame. They are personally at fault and, if there was any semblance of fairness and justice in this sick political system they would have their salaries slashed.

In the fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs there was the part where the jealous queen who possesses a magical mirror asks: "Magic mirror in my hand, who is the fairest in the land?" Well, suppose we equip this Congress with a modern-day version of that magic mirror and have them ask this question: "Magic mirror in our hands, who should be blamed for this monstrous sequestration dilemma that is threatening America's stability? And, of course, the answer would come back as: "The blame belongs to you who have betrayed the American people by refusing to conduct the business of this nation in a competent, ethical manner.

And when they look more deeply into their mirrors, they will see a reflection of individuals that are complete failures; that have failed to work with their fellow legislators to do everything in their power to take the obvious steps that would have negated this extremely severe action. Failure will stare them in the face and they will be forced to come to the realization that they themselves represent the greatest problem this country faces.

Most Americans who work to support their families, provide a good home, educate their children and be decent citizens try hard to do the best job they can and many strive to excel in their field of endeavor. They produce things, they sell, they create, and they earn their salaries. They are responsible citizens who comprise the fabric of this nation. Conversely, these useless members of Congress are not forced to do any of these things; they produce nothing of value that contributes to the growth and stability of this country. They are reactive not proactive. The salaries that they will continue to receive even during these times of austerity are unearned gifts from the taxpayers of America.

Now, as this ludicrous sequestration legislation goes into effect and adversely affects Americans and this struggling economy, these "untouchables" should, once again, pull out their magical mirrors and ask this question: "Magic mirror in our hands, is it true what the people of America say about us -- that we are incompetent, that we are responsible for creating this dysfunctional government; and that we now have become no more than the tools of Corporate America?

And the answer would come back as: "Yes, it's true that the people view you as incompetent, dysfunctional, selfish, greedy, corrupted and the worst thing that has ever happened to America; and that you are beyond any form of rehabilitation. What these politicians who have contaminated our government have just done might be described as a situation in which a bank robber, after being apprehended for his criminal actions, goes into court and then, ignoring the judge (the American people), suspends his own sentence.

But these robbers don't care a whit about magic mirrors let alone what the people of America think of them. They will continue to misuse taxpayer's dollars to fund the monstrous defense industry, subsidize the highly profitable petroleum industry and give massive bailouts to the "too big to fail" banks. And, at the same time that they are taking care of their corporate masters they are, under this sequestration, taking billions of dollars out of federal programs that care for millions of low-income, homeless, the elderly, the disabled, women and children in dire need.

What can the American people realistically do to counteract these monstrous actions? They can continue to condemn this Congress's performance in national polls, they can try to figure out how to remove the corrupting influence of Corporate America from government, or they can try to throw the bums out at the next national elections. None of these measures have worked so far because the system is so badly contaminated and we the people just don't have the proper tools to fix it. Polls have done nothing to change Washington, banning corporate power and money from the election process would take a reconstituted Supreme Court or a Constitutional Amendment, and if we vote the bums out there will only be new bums to take their place.

But there might be one way by which we could bring these political misfits to their knees. They need to be treated with scorn and disdain, to have to feel the shame and disgrace of what they have done, and be labeled as societal pariahs and outcasts. They need to be hounded wherever and whenever they appear in public. Perhaps the Occupy Movement could set up teams to follow them around and make them as miserable as they have made the mass of the American people. People should attend their town meetings and tell them how pitiful and pathetic their performance has been and they should be urged to immediately resign. People should refuse to watch or listen to their drivel on TV or on the radio.

Of course there would have to be a few exceptions made for the few representatives of the people who are working hard to represent them protect their interests. Senators Elizabeth Warren D-Mass, Bernie Sanders I-VT., and several others in this Congress would have to be given special exemptions and not treated in this way; For they are cut out of a different cloth than their colleagues; the cloth of ethics and integrity. These two dedicated public servants should serve as models for future generations of politicians after we drive the current low level politicians out of the Congress.

It would be wonderful see these arrogant congressional failures, at some point in time, be subjected to such a degree of shame and scorn and held in such contempt that a large portion of them would not be able to withstand the enormous pressure and would be forced to resign. It would be great to watch these abysmal failures slink out of this nation's capitol during the middle of the night, never to be seen again.

What I'm proposing should not just be dismissed as wishful thinking; that it can't happen, that it just won't work; because it already is working to some extent. You may have noticed how many politicians have been booed and shouted down at their town meetings; how many Congressional hearings have been significantly disrupted by large numbers of protesters who were hidden in the audience. All that needs to be done is to increase these disruptions exponentially across Washington D.C. and this country so that those who have treated their fellow Americans with disrespect and disdain are given a taste of their own medicine.
