As a follow-up to my article, "We Can No Longer Remain Passive and Indifferent, It is Time for Collective Action", OPEDNEWS, June 8, 2011, there is an upcoming time and place where real collective action is about to take place.
On October 6, 2011, the 10th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan, a people's coalition will begin to occupy "Freedom Plaza" in Washington, D.C.
This coalition of prominent individuals and organizations called October2011.org has announced an open invitation to ALL to commit and join in being there. It has also put in this caveat that people commit ONLY if 50,000 others agree to do the same.
The intent of the coalition is this; we will not to leave until the people are satisfied. As the organizers have said, "This will not be another rally and march on a Saturday, make home movies, pat ourselves on the back and go home. We are coming to Washington to stay."
This is our "Tahrir Square" moment to restoring our freedom and democracy, to peacefully resist and oppose the current plutocracy of corporatists, militarists and elected officials they are beholden to. They have usurped this country to benefit themselves and their interests which is in opposition to the people's benefit and interest.
It is time for the people of this country to overcome their reticence, come together in solidarity with others and commit to making this country again of, by and for the people, not of, by and for the corporate plutocrats.
I will be in "Freedom Plaza" on October 6 in solidarity with others who have pledged to be there. Where will you be? Will you pledge and agree to join us?
