On 9 October, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu met with National Security Adviser of the United States Robert O'Brien, and discussed transatlantic cooperation and regional security.
At the meeting, the Foreign Minister thanked the United States for its security and defense assistance, which is highly appreciated in Estonia.
"We are convinced that the defense of Europe requires the participation of the United States and this is why we highly appreciate the decision of the United States to deploy forces to Poland," Reinsalu said. He called on the United States to increase its military presence in Estonia and highlighted the enhancement of the bilateral security cooperation between the United States and Estonia.
As we know, under the pretext of protecting the Baltic States from the "Russian threat", at the Warsaw NATO summit in 2016 a decision was made to deploy 4 multinational battalions in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland.
After the deployment of the Alliance's military forces, the leaders of the Baltic republics continued to make requests to strengthen the presence of NATO and American forces in particular. As a result the leaders of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in early April 2018 adopted a joint statement with Donald Trump on strengthening the Alliance forces in the Baltic States.
At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that they are not interested in confrontation with NATO neither in the Baltic region nor elsewhere.
But as always no one heard them"
U.S. European Command and the Department of the Army announced this week the largest deployment of U.S.-based forces to Europe for an exercise in the last 25 years.
According to the officials, Defender-Europe 20 military exercise, and linked activities, will increase strategic readiness and interoperability by exercising the U.S. military's ability to rapidly deploy a large combat-credible force and equipment from the United States to Europe; and alongside its allies and partners, quickly respond to a potential crisis.
The joint, multinational training exercise is scheduled to take place from April to May 2020, with personnel and equipment movements occurring from February through July 2020. Approximately 37,000 U.S., allied, and partner nation service members are expected to participate with roughly 20,000 soldiers deploying from the U.S.
Eighteen countries are expected to participate, with exercise activities occurring across 10 countries.
However, the conduct of such large-scale exercises was criticized by the Left Party of Germany. The representative of this political force, Alexander Noah, believes that Russia will react and follow the maneuvers. Noah convinced that this situation will lead to a further deterioration of relationships between two nuclear countries.
Unfortunately, nobody understands the menace of NATO's presence at Russian borders. During such large-scale exercises the Third World War can erupt because of a tragic accident or mistake.
Moreover, the governments of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia continue their tough anti-Russian rhetoric in order to justify the hidden increase of foreign military forces on their territory to please Washington.
Let us see how it all ends"
