FBI Director James Comey and NSA Director Mike Rogers testifying before House Intel Committee, March 20, 2017
In case you missed it, there's a video and transcript of FBI Director James Comey and NSA Director Admiral Michael S. Rogers testifying as "witnesses" before the House Intelligence Committee hearing on "Russia's active interference campaign waged against our 2016 presidential election." [1]
To say this whole hearing is beyond the pale is an understatement. Unsubstantiated allegations and assertions aplenty. Verifiable, factual evidence? Zero.
Here's the tell tale sign of this McCarthyesque hearing as told by Admiral Rogers regarding the intelligence "community's assessment on assessing Russian activities and intentions in the recent U.S. elections".
"We stand by it as issued. There is no change in our confidence level on the assessment. Of course, the specifics of this assessment need to remain classified to protect the sensitive sources and methods...there are some issues I cannot discuss." But here's the kicker, "I want to assure the committee we take very seriously that obligation to protect US persons privacy". No specific "issues can be discussed and besides it's all classified. Basically it's trust us.
This from the agency that lies as a given. An agency that has utter contempt for the Constitution its members swore to uphold and in particular the 4th Amendment "against unreasonable searches and seizures." An agency that is conducting unlawful electronic surveillance-thank you Edward Snowden- against everyone in the world-much of data mining without justifiable cause of any illegal acts committed- including everyone in the US and all of it conveniently stored in the $1.5 billion Data Center in Bluffdale, Utah.
Well so much for the NSA taking seriously its "obligation to protect US persons privacy".
If this is not Orwellian "Doublespeak" I don't know what is. Lies are presented as the truth and the truth-if it's allowed to come out at all-is a lie.
"Official" Washington has descended into a political abyss where a maze of unsubstantiated accusations are trumpeted as the facts but can't be disclosed because they're classified.
Read the transcript or see the video. It is a sad commentary on where we are in this country. Any country be it Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, actually any country witnessing the travesty of a Committee hearing conducted within the supposed "peoples" Congress should easily recognize the "Doublespeak" of the "witnesses".
Only fools would trust "official" Washington after seeing this latest extravaganza.
