In case you missed this-I did- the State Department in early April updated what it called its "Worldwide Caution" alerting travelers of "the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against US citizens and interests throughout the world".
Of course what Foggy Bottom doesn't say-at least what I believe is closer to the truth-is why this has happened. It's not hard to decipher though considering we swagger our way all over the world imposing American style "Manifest Destiny" as if it was the natural order of things-and if you heard or read Obama's address to the graduating class at West Point Wednesday with his "America must always lead on the world stage"I believe in American exceptionalism with every fiber of my being"the United States remains the one indispensable nation-- you know why such hubris and the lawless actions he and other president's have undertaken is encountering such fierce resistance pretty much everywhere our executive sends in the troops including the thousand plus foreign military bases we have scattered all over the world much to the dismay of the indigenous populations who mostly resent the imposition of American troops in their communities; think Okinawa as a prime example.
But it's not just Okinawa where American troops and I would venture to say Americans in general are unwelcome. It's the entire Muslim world from Indonesia the Middle East and North Africa, even Britain and France with their large minority Muslim populations or for that matter any foreign destination; Americans are potential targets for revenge as "blowback" from our government's policies and actions.
Not since the Viet Nam war era when Americans took direct action into the streets to protest and demonstrate against the war and the actions taken by its government has there been a collective action by the people-notwithstanding the 2011 Occupy movement-that resulted in the government changing course and even that took until 1973 when Nixon finally ended the war.
Now the people are just superfluous to whatever actions the government takes whether its initiating wars, occupations, CIA and special ops operations, drone strikes, the global war on terror even the NSA's surveillance of everyone's electronic communications its all done in the name of the people or to "defend" the people. But it's all a ruse defending what is really the indefensible.
Others in the world when polled list the US and Israel as the greatest threats in the world. Whether they had direct contact with the lethal end of American firepower or connected with others that did or just aware of America's misadventures, the world is onto the American government's malevolent actions and no longer sees us as the "shining light on the hill". Only the majority in the US apparently so gullible and propagandized with lies and distortions-yet marketed and sold as the truth-have failed to see the sinister actions being perpetrated by their government in its name.
Again the State Department puts out its "Worldwide Caution" to American travelers as if the terrorism it warns Americans about wasn't created by its own government's policies and actions.
But that's a sad conclusion hard to refute.
