It would have been better if Katehi had been forced to resign and go back to Bulgaria Greece, but what the hell.
The University of California regents have agreed to pay out roughly $1 million to end a lawsuit over last November's pepper spraying of UC-Davis students, part of a deal that also calls for a personal written apology from Chancellor Linda Katehi to each person hit with the spray.
Then there's all the other costs associated with the world's most famous pepper-spraying:
- $320,000 to the law firm of Munger, Tolles & Olsen
- $90,000 in salaries
- $120,000 for 'real time crisis management support'
- $450,000 to Kroll consulting for the investigation and report
- $230,000 for an internal affairs investigation into Lt. Pike
Personally, I think $30,000 is way low for being pepper-sprayed unlawfully and with malice aforethought. I hope the can each file a lawsuit against Lt. Pike as an individual for civil rights violations. But, as a friend used to say, it's a hell of a lot better than pepper spray a sharp stick in the eye.
