WASHINGTON , D.C. (Feb. 9)
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today released the following statement about the ongoing protests in Egypt:
"Protests in Egypt continue, with workers across the country joining in, by conducting strikes following the Mubarak regime"s hollow steps toward reform. According to Human Rights Watch, over 300 Egyptians have lost their lives thus far in their commitment to realizing their democratic aspirations.
"The U.S. is throwing its support behind
Vice President Omar Suleiman -- one of Mubarak's closest confidants,
while at the same time making statements in support of the Egyptian
people. Egyptians are simply demanding the same things for their country
that we often take for granted here: a representative government, term limits
and a constitution that affords everyone equal protection. The U.S.
should be able to support democracy-building when there is no war
involved."
