It almost seems that since #blacklivesmatter activists did not confront Trump, he created a situation with Jorge Ramos to demonstrate how he would handle such a confrontation. He said Bernie Sanders was "weak" in his response. So we got to see Trump act like like an authoritarian bully. But his little "demonstration tells us so much more about the kind of president he would be.
First, he tells Univision anchor Jorge Ramos he was "not called" and orders him "sit down," three times, the last time very disdainfully. Really? The media is to be called? Then he tells him to "go back to Univision."
I've been to enough press conferences and you've seen enough conferences where the press are jostling, speaking over each other trying to get a question answered. This is a normal part of the job. Trump and his Trumpaloompa followers have called Ramos rude. He's not rude. He's professional, doing his job, the way a reporter is supposed to.
Frankly, Trump is operating like Obama, trying to control the press. Obama has been a... for lack of a better word, horrific monster in terms of treatment of the press, especially if you include prosecution of journalists. He, with the help of Eric Holder's DOJ, eliminated, at a federal level, the right of journalists to maintain informant confidentiality. Trumps attitude towards the press suggests he will have no respect for them... but it gets worse.
Next Trump looks to his left and mouths something to an off-camera guard, as the above image shows. Then he says "go ahead" and the guard proceeds to forcibly evict Ramos from the press conference.
But Trump said, "I don't know much about him. I've never really met him, except he started screaming. Then Trump claims, "I didn't escort him out.... He just stands up and starts screaming. He's obviously a very emotional person.... I don't know him. I have no idea."
Right in front of a room full of press people, Trump lies. He fails to own up to telling the guard to "go ahead and blames it on the guard." This is not leadership. This is dishonesty. This is deception. Lying and deception is something we've come to accept from both the Bush Cheney and Obama Biden administrations-- lies about torture, about spying and spy agencies about war. Trump clearly demonstrates, in this short video that he will continue the tradition.
Next, let's talk about how Trump repeatedly, and he's expanded on this lie, accuses Ramos of screaming. Ramos was doing his job as a journalist. There was no screaming. Trump will brazenly lie about any opponent. We can assume that he will approve of SuperPACs making brutal, totally untrue attacks on his opponents. We can assume that as president he will lie about members of congress who oppose his policies and I believe we can reasonably assume that he will use spy information and metadata to slander and malign people who get in his way.
Finally, Trump says, "I don't know him. I have no idea."
But he does know him. later, he talks about how he is suing Univision and suing Ramos. He knows plenty. We can assume that Trump will boldly and routinely tell us he is innocent, that he knows nothing. Kinda reminds me of officer Schultz on Hogan's Heroes, except, the problem is, this narcissistic sociopath is running for president. You have to click this three second video. Then, please add your thoughts.
