The number of ever-increasing mass killings and random acts of gun violence is both alarming and tragic. From the man who shot his wife and children (and then himself) in Georgia to the latest theater shooting in Louisiana, the body count rises exponentially with the number of NRA lobbyists.

Try as they might, there is no way a gun nut can convince me that these killings would still occur if the murderers didn't have guns. Are we to believe that Louisiana's John Houser or Colorado's James Holmes would have started shooting movie patrons with a bow and arrow if guns weren't so handily available? Or that a four year old would accidentally kill his toddler sister while playing with Daddy's fish cleaning knife?

I know, the ammosexuals will tell us that it's not the guns, it's the madmen. And that those movie goers would still be alive if they were all packing heat. So would the little toddler, and the sleeping children shot by their father. See, nobody would ever get shot if everybody had a gun. Makes perfect sense in Neocon world.

The bobble-heads on the cable "news" channels then add insult to injury witIh endless sickening interviews of the survivors and tearful relatives, only hours after their loss. Like poor 16-year-old Ali Breaux, sister of 21-year-old Layfaette victim Mayci Breaux, who broke down twice during her MSNBC interview this morning, while the host -- dripping with feigned compassion -- pressed her for details of her sister's life, and what she meant to her little sis. Ali was clearly still in shock, but she did the best she could to perform for the cameras:

"'She taught me how to be the strong person I am today,' Ali Breaux said. 'She taught me not to care about what other people think, and taught be how to be a good person.' The younger sister added, 'She was my rock.'"

If we can't control the guns, can we at least control the media? Stop them from turning the murderers into celebrities? Would that not, perhaps, discourage copycat killers? And wouldn't that be easier for the families and survivors if their loved ones weren't martyred for ARBITRATION?

Kathy never expected a career in radio as a talk show producer. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Kathy was completing her nursing degree when in 2001 - in an emergency - she was asked to fill in as the producer of Mike's program. Within a few (more...)
