Dear Cindy-
Thinking of you this Veteran's Day. How many of us have sacrificed everything, including a child we loved dearly, to accept challenge upon challenge, and still have the courage to stand up and say "Give me more". You are a true heroine in my eyes. I wrote this poem for you a couple of years ago, but never did anything with it. For some reason, I feel compelled to give it now.
At Arlington West
I have seen the shrine
Of your son, he could be mine.
9-11 helped take away
The breath he could
Have had today.
The towers fell
The smoke did rise
There became a government
To despise.
Total collusion
And corruption.
Halliburton,
Should I say more?
It is Cheney's
corporate whore.
Defeat the
political machine
Obliterate what
it does not mean.
I believe your son
Is within you
Guiding everything
You do.
Cindy, you know,
Win or lose
You fight the battle
Of which you choose.
My heart is with you
Each step of the way
Hoping this madness
Will soon go away.
My heart goes out to everyone who has lost a loved one in a time of war.
