Here's something that should have been done years ago. Most Americans are aware that Washington D.C. is full of war hawks whose thirst for perpetual war is insatiable. So, as a reward for their aggressive, relentless pursuit of military actions, let's create a new Special Forces Group, the War Hawks Battalion, in which they can personally take part in the current fight against the ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria.
ISIS, as most Americans are now aware, represents the newest terrorist threat in the Middle East and the danger is that its relentless militancy could engulf the whole region in a massive war. This poses a great dilemma for the U.S. a few of its Allies who are, as a result, in the process of raining bombs down on Iraq and Syria.
In dealing with this new enemy our government has to consider all options. It's a very touchy situation because the American people who are strongly behind this effort to take down ISIS also are very adamant that they do not want U.S. troops bogged down in another military quagmire as was the case for many years in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Credible military experts have clearly stated that, while President Obama's strategy of bombing the terrorists in Iraq and Syria may prove to be reasonably effective, there is no substitute for having troops on the ground who can smoke those guerrilla-type fighters out of their hiding places and wipe them out.
With that expert advice in mind what will Mr. Obama so; will he keep his word that there will be no American troops on the ground in these two countries or will he submit to the power of the U.S. generals who many Americans believe are in total control of this situation? Well very recently we heard General Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, strongly indicate that, "To be clear, if we reach the point where I believe our advisers should accompany Iraqi troops on attacks against specific ISIL targets, I will recommend that to the President."
Let's put it this way; based on past experience, what we are going to see is that when General Dempsey decides it's time to put American troops into action then you better believe that we will hear this president come before the nation and strongly make the case that this is a move that is absolutely necessary to win this war against ISIS.
Now if the White House makes such a move and supplements the air strikes with troops on the ground, it could represent a brilliant opportunity to come up with a new, innovative strategy to add to this country's military muscle. This could be the perfect time to create and send into action that unique new fighting force comprised of the many war hawks that now occupy Washington D.C.
