Thinking can be painful, especially critical thinking or thinking that goes against the crowd based 'GroupThink' mentality. It causes one to experience brain pain, as well as physical pain to go against the grain (sorry for the alliteration), so it is easier to just "go along to get along".
Haven't you felt it when you tried to understand some new concept, or gone against the 'accepted norms', or tried to point out to the leaders that there is danger ahead? Many times I've heard people say, 'that makes my brain hurt' when you try to show them an advanced concept, or show them a new way to go about something, especially if it is radical change from the accepted norms of one's own tribe.
We have trouble recognizing the wolf in sheep's clothing, the opportunists who want to maintain the 'status quo' at any cost. Those who would take advantage, and keep us down below them. They want us to be sheep. We want to be human beings, alive and vibrant, thinking and enjoying the wonder of the world we have laid at our feet.
Generally we take the easy way forward, instead of breaking out of the pack and taking a stand for one's own thoughts, beliefs or insights. We lose a lot of intelligence that way and perhaps even the ability to survive. It could be that the pain is from the brain's growing new neural pathways to support new information which would erupt into consciousness if these new ways of thinking were pursued.
In other words, it's easier and less painful to be a follower than a trailblazer, many of us just follow along, afraid to speak out and shake the foundations of these charismatic leaders' assertions. We engage in GroupThink when we should be thinking in original ways, especially when it comes to survival. We need more lateral thinking, original thinking, individuality, creativity.
This GroupThink kind of thinking, especially in government has almost gotten us wiped out more than once. One example that stands out is JFK's struggle with the group think of his staff of military advisors, that almost got us into a nuclear war with Russia during the Cuban missile crisis. He stood his ground, and put them in their place. We are here today because he refused to go along to get along. He refused to think with the group.
Now, once again GroupThink has taken humanity to the edge of the abyss, during the last four or five administrations, but especially under Obama. He is obviously being influenced and perhaps even coerced to behave like a good herd animal, while the wolves are turning the herd toward the cliff for mass slaughter and overt control.
Almost without exception these "wolves" have an agenda of their own, they are not looking for green pastures for the herd, they simply want to control or destroy the herd, in one go, and have a grand feast for a day or a lifetime. The wolves do not care. Unknowingly, they are hastening their own death by starvation on a future date. More is not always more, sometimes it means less if allowed to progress.
