As we all know, what we see in this country today in the Republican and Tea Parties is a concerted and sustained, out-and-out, no-holds-barred war on progressives and liberals. People like Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Mitch McConnell, Carl Paladino and Anne Coulter unabashedly foment hatred against progressives and give the green light for abuse and harassment, and possibly violence against progressives, liberals, gays, atheists, pro-choice and pro-stem cell research advocates or other so called "elite" groups. They use thinly disguised code words and actions that condone violence like Sarah Palin's "reload" and Carl Paladino's baseball bat which he "threatens" to use on our heads if we don't do as he wants. Their aim is to continually harass, frighten, eventually weaken and ultimately destroy progressive political parties as well as associated organization such as labor unions.
And all of these right wing groups strongly support religion, are anti-science, and are fully backed by fundamentalist protestant churches and the Roman Catholic Hierarchy. What this amounts to therefore is "religious fascism."
These groups are bankrolled in their political campaigns by a group of extremely wealthy individuals and by powerful corporations who see an easy way to reduce government regulations and increase profits. The corporations probably think that it will be a simple matter to turn off this hatred once it achieves its political ambition before it destroys the country. However, they were wrong in Germany in the 1930s and will be wrong in the USA as well.
