Dangers of Texting While Walking On city streets and in shopping centers, there is usually someone strolling while talking on a phone, texting with his head down. The problem isn't as widely...

What seems astounding to this writer is the apparent "disconnect" of the American people.

Oh they're connected alright with their cell phones, IPODS and whatever new electronic gadgetry that emerges from the tech industry.

But "connected" to what; their friends, family, music, games?

Some seem furiously texting away while others in coffee shops, internet cafes, bookstores are on their lap top computers reading, writing, perhaps for college courses, possibly their employment. Frankly it's hard to tell.

Yet the guess here is, they're mostly disengaged from what's happening around them, mush less what's happening in America and the world.

Then there are "others" who are "connected" but what exactly are they connected with?

I recently read a piece by Philip Girardi in the ICH, Information Clearing House titled, "Fascism in America The Devil Went Down to Georgia".

In it Girardi writes about a friend who spent 27 years as a US Army lawyer, now retired, who "wrote a letter to her local newspaper in Augusta, Georgia 'decrying the killing of nearly two thousand Palestinian civilians in Gaza, describing the deaths as part of the systemic erosion of the rule of law in our nation and across the globe since 9/11."

Well her letter generated more than a 100 comments from readers with the overwhelming "majority violently and caustically opposed to the principle that Israel and the United States have not exactly been role models for a peaceful world". Many were "personally insulting and "highly offensive".

To wit here are a few of the comments:

"Hamas would gladly kill, without reservation, every living Jewish soul on the planet. That is their goal after all."

"Why did Israel move into Gaza? Because they were being attacked with missiles from there".

"Israel being stronger militarily, could kill all 4.5 million Palestinian's (Gaza and West Bank combined), women and children included and would be entirely justified in doing so" Sounds really good to me."

And "people like this letter writer are the direct cause of many of the casualties".
