I am presenting a conspiracy theory. I have no facts on which to base this, just suspicions. That said, here is my theory:
On May 1, our government reported Osama bin Laden was killed in a U.S. Navy Seal raid on his compound in Pakistan. No proof was offered and his body was quickly disposed of into the sea. Or so they said. History, of course, records numerous incidents of our government lying to us, very often when it comes to national security and war issues.
There have been numerous reports that Osama bin Laden has been dead for years. Osama bin Dead? Also, there was a recent post by former Reagan Treasury Secretary Paul Craig Roberts about a Pakistani TV interview with bin Laden's next door neighbor, who describes a helicopter taking off after the operation, then exploding, killing all aboard. Suppose Osama has been dead for years, and the Bush administration kept the fear of Osama bin Laden alive in order to execute their plans for Middle East war and occupation, as well as an all-encompessing, unconstitutional national security state in this country? Barack Obama inherited this mess, and whether by ignorance, willingness or fear, kept the deception alive.
Then one day David Petraeus, Robert Gates, and the other Pentagon brass. say to Obama: "Mr. President, you've given us everything we've wanted since you were elected. We appreciate that. We told you we'd have your back and you would be rewarded. We have one more prize for you, a biggie.
"Your poll numbers are slipping, so you need something really spectacular. Since we can't milk the bin Laden thing forever--and he has been dead for years--how about we put him to rest (wink, wink) and give you all the credit? Just continue allowing us free rein and all the money we request and we'll figure out more ways to reward you."
Oh, one more thing.. The Navy Seals who conducted the raid never were identified. Okay, I understand that. But if bin Laden's neighbor's report is true, about everybody, including many Navy Seals, being killed in a helicopter explosion that day, the military had to account for those deaths. On August 6, a U.S. military helicopter was reportedly shot down with the loss of many Navy Seals, "most of them belonging to the same elite unit as the Navy SEALs who killed former Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden, U.S. officials said." (Unless they were already dead from the original Osama raid.) The names of the Navy Seals who died were confirmed.
That's my conspiracy theory. I can't prove any of it, but neither can the government prove their claims. You can decide which theory sounds the most plausible.
