The President received the annual briefing on the forecast for the 2011 hurricane season and the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) "Whole Community" approach to disaster management that included state, local, non-profit, faith-based and private sector attendees. Attendees included North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue and members of her emergency management team, American Red Cross President Gail J. The President signed into law S. 1082 , the "Small Business Additional Temporary Extension of Act of 2011," which extended the authorizations of the Small Business Innovation Research and the Small Business Technology Transfer programs until September 30, 2011, and extended the authorizations of certain other Small Business Administration programs until July 31, 2011. The President sent a letter the United States Congress, designating of the following seven foreign individuals as appropriate for sanctions under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, 21 U.S.C. 1901-1908 (the "Kingpin Act"): Manuel Torres Felix (Mexico), Gonzalo Inzunza (Mexico), Haji Lal Jan Ishaqzai Afghanistan), Kamchybek Asanbekovich Kolbayev (Kyrgyzstan), John Harun Mwau (Kenya), Naima Mohamed Nyakiniywa (Kenya) and Javier Antonio Calle Serna (Colombia).
The White House released a report that highlighted the resurgence of the American auto industry. The report discussed the jobs created in the sector, the turnaround of the companies into profitability, and how entire communities were revitalized by a strengthened auto industry.
The White House Office of Public Engagement launched a new landing page, Winning the Future: President Obama and LGBT Americans. This webpage was designed to keep updateed the President and his Administration's steps taken, and continued to be taken, to benefit the LGBT community.
