The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a report estimating the economic, environmental and health benefits of the Clean Air Act over the period 1990 to 2020.
The White House released a new report entitled Women in America: Indicators of Social and Economic Well-Being , a statistical portrait showing how women are faring in the United States and how their lives have changed over time. This was the first comprehensive federal report on women since 1963, when the Commission on the Status of Women, established by President John F. Kennedy and chaired by Eleanor Roosevelt , produced a report on the conditions of women. View Women in America HERE .
The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced charges against former Goldman Sachs and Procter & Gamble director Rajat Gupta of insider trading for "illegally tipping Galleon Management founder and hedge fund manager Raj Rajaratnam with inside information about the quarterly earnings at both firms, as well as an impending $5 billion investment by Berkshire Hathaway in Goldman." Gupta, "a friend and business associate of Rajaratnam," provided him with confidential information he learned as a board member of Goldman and P&G, the SEC charged. According to the SEC, Gupta had tipped off Galleon that P&G would have lower-than-expected sales growth in the 2008 final quarter, allowing the hedge fund to pocket illicit profits of more than $570,000. The US Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) , which had teamed up with 170 law enforcement agencies around the United States for operation "Southern Tempest" targeting violent gangs linked to international drug trafficking organizations, announced the arrests of 678 gang members from 113 different gangs, including 13 linked to Mexican drug cartels. Robert Brustein for his contributions to the American theatre as a critic, producer, playwright, and educator. As founder of the Yale Repertory Theatre and the American Repertory Theatre and Institute and as the theatre critic for The New Republic since 1959, Mr. Brustein has been a leading force in the development of theatre and theatre artists in the United States.
