Strange Fruit on Staten Island
The NYPD choked Eric Garner to death for nothing; nothing other than being Black and being tired of being harassed by the cops. This was a lynching caught on video tape, so they can't say it didn't happen. They can't say he was reaching for a weapon or that his actions made the cops fear for their lives. Look at the damn video -- The cops just grabbed him in a choke hold and kept choking him, even as he said, "I can't breathe, I can't breathe," over and over again. Then they left him laying on the sidewalk in handcuffs, and neither the pigs nor the emergency workers who came on the scene did anything to try to save his life. This brought to mind Billy Holiday's song, "Strange Fruit," which was about the lynching of Black people in the South under the old Jim Crow.
The Mayor and the Police Chief say they need to do an investigation. No we don't--.the video shows the cops choking him till he lay there lifeless. And this is no isolated incident The NYPD has gotten away with murder repeatedly, killing more than 240 people since September, 2001. Cops across the country do the same damn thing. Most of the victims of the cops are Black or Latino, and most of them weren't doing anything wrong when those who are sworn to protest and serve stole their lives. Yet killer cops almost always get away with murder.
THIS sh*t MUST STOP!
What can you say about a system that allows its police to brutalize and even murder people? That it's illegitimate and no damn good! And that it needs to be gotten rid of thru revolution as soon as possible. We in the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) are working to prepare the ground, prepare the people and prepare the vanguard for the time when millions can be led to go all out for revolution with a real chance of winning. We are building a movement for revolution and building the RCP as its leading core. If you've had it with police murdering people and getting away with it, get with the movement for revolution.
However you come at this, if you have an ounce of justice in your heart; if you're tired of being treated like criminals by the cops and courts, if you refuse to stand by while others are subjected to this kind of mistreatment, then become part of the October Month of Resistance to Mass Incarceration, Police Terror, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation.
