The GOP: Let's Rename it the APP, the Anti-People Party - Social Antagonists

That's a great idea. Let's go ahead and rename that Grand Old Party, and call it the APP, the Anti-People Party. That's a perfect description of the Republican Party and its newest and most repulsive element, the Tea Party. Some people actually think that GOP stands for Government of the People but that is like saying that Ronald Reagan was a liberal. Actually, though, Republicans really like people, as long as they are their own kind; wealthy, powerful, greedy, selfish, haughty and manipulative.

Sad to say, this is the same political party that the American electorate put in control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010. When in the history of America did the people of this nation make a more grievous mistake than when they willingly allowed that political travesty to happen? Ever since that happened our government has lapsed into a state of paralysis.

Giving the GOP any form of control is, in itself, a terrible blow to our waning democracy. That election was bad enough but the fact that within this group of reckless and ruthless GOP politicians, an unruly gang called the Tea Party also was elected to office, is a catastrophe. This new subsidiary of the GOP, said to number 80 or slightly more, is comprised of a group of slightly demented political neophytes who seem to be against everything in America but have no substantive ideas of any kind how to make any of it any better.

This Congress already was in a state of gridlock, especially the Senate, after the Republicans decided to bring the legislative process to a standstill in order to destroy the presidency of Barack Obama. But with the infusion of more Republicans and, especially with the Tea Partiers, that destructive agenda has been greatly magnified. No matter what the problems that this nation faces, they are not being solved, not even being addressed.

What a tragedy this has become for America. What we needed to come out of that election in 2010 was the best and the brightest of people in America that could turn the country in a completely new direction. That didn't happen because far too many Democratic and Independent voters, disillusioned with the sad performance of the Democrats, stayed home. That opened the door for the Republican voters to dominate the election that has ended in this disaster.

But then, there are those who say that the Democrats are just as bad as Republicans, that they are basically the same. By now we all know that a good many Democrats have a physical problem that is commonly referred to as a lack of a spine, often worsened by cowardly behavior. Certainly, neither of these two parties and their actions in Washington could be called exemplary or outstanding but there is one major difference between them.

Let's illustrate this difference by what these two parties, down deep, really stand for. The Republican Party is totally subservient to Corporate America and to the wealthiest Americans. No matter what issue that comes up for a decision, if there is a choice of whether it benefits the people of America or the corporations of America, the GOP will choose the corporations every time without fail. That's what they do; they follow the dictates of their corporate masters. If you don't agree with that premise then tell me what program of substance has ever been proposed or implemented by the GOP that looks out for the welfare of the American people.
