We have come to the end of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, while our friends down under are ending their winter. The Harvest Moon on Thursday, September 19th comes right before the Autumn Equinox on Sunday, September 22nd. We are at another turning of the Wheel of the Year. Change is in the air.
It's always good to set intentions at the cardinal solstices and equinoxes, because cardinal energy initiates new actions. As we move into the dark time of year here in the North, we need to look at what we've harvested this year that will sustain us through the winter. Name what you have created for your life this year and set your intentions through ritual and prayer.
Virgo is the sign of the Virgin Mother, the energy that manifests the divine Child, our sacred purpose. The re-birth of the Light at last year's Winter Solstice (2012) is now manifested in the world. Virgo's archetypal energy is concerned with discernment and analysis aimed toward perfecting a vehicle (ourselves) for service. Virgo asks how can you serve the world?
Pisces is the sign of the Source, the Great Mother of all, the original ocean of Life. Like the twin fishes pulled in opposite directions and yet tied together, Pisces' archetypal energy shows us how we can transcend duality. We are infinite and yet just a drop in the ocean of infinity; we are unique individuals and yet part of all humanity. We are one. At this full Moon, the Piscean waters flow into good Virgoean earth to create wholeness.
Virgo loves to figure out how things work. Pisces wants to infuse the works of our minds, hearts and hands with creativity, imagination and spirit. This full Moon highlights who we have become through what we have created this year.
Pisces/Virgo Full Moon
This Harvest
Full Moon occurs on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 4:13am PDT/ 7:13am EDT/
11:13am GMT.
The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 27* Virgo is: A group of aristocratic ladies meet ceremonially at a court's function. The aristocracy was comprised of people who had power to affect change or stop it. This image seems to imply that feminine power focused through ritual might be important now. We've experimented for years with the power of meditation to affect "reality'. Let's use our feminine, feeling, intuitive right-brain to imagine and refine what we want to co-create with Spirit. As we embody our spiritual vision, we can create a new world.
It's Time to start the Evolution!
The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 27* Pisces is: The harvest moon illumines a clear autumnal sky. Dane Rudhyar says that this symbolizes "the light of fulfillment that blesses work well done'. The Harvest Moon always seems to be bigger than the other full moons of the year--perhaps because it rises at the equator. It's time to reap what we have sown and cultivated this year. Our harvest is the culmination of our efforts to manifest a deeper and fuller life for ourselves and the world. Name what you have harvested and bless it and yourself for the good work you have done.
The Astrological Matrix of this Full Moon
Astrology is a great example of Virgoean precision and Piscean symbolism. Astrology operates through a system of wheels upon wheels, cycles within cycles, spirals within spirals. Since Virgo offers us a chance to synthesize and integrate the many parts of ourselves into a new wholeness, I believe it's important to understand some of the background energies of this Harvest Moon.
The Outer Planets: The Matrix of Our Times
The outer planets-- Uranus, Neptune and Pluto --describe the collective tone of the moment. The background upon which we create the future! We are immersed in those energies culturally and globally. Right now, those three planets are disrupting as well as energizing our collective paradigm.
