The Cosmic Story: Cancer New Moon, July 15-16,2015
Cancer. Sign of the Waters of Life, the archetypal Great Mother, as well as the sign of our emotional body. The sign of feminine power that nurtures life. Like the crab, Cancer's energy sinks deep within, aware of our deepest emotional needs, concerned with our sense of security, committed to those we love.
It's interesting that while the United States celebrates our birthday as a nation during Cancer on July 4 th , Americans, and especially our politicians, seem to have lost any sense of what our emotional needs really are. We have let corporations shape our culture to meet their needs, which are not human needs (even though the Supreme Court thinks corporations are people). The 'things' our corporate culture offers as substitutes for those real emotional needs no longer serve us. We all want healthy food (another Cancer concern), safe communities, a safe environment, and a chance for a happy life. In our collective life, our governments are giving us the exact opposite.
We are beginning to awaken to the fact that modern life is often a wasteland, devoid of the emotional sustenance that makes life worth-while. We are awakening to the fact that our unsustainable life-style isn't making us happier or more peaceful. Look at the world--wars, violence, fanaticism, power, greed and domination rule the day. Where is compassion, generosity, mercy, imagination, peace, cooperation or fairness? Corporations and banks have more power than people to shape our world. (And we keep letting them.) And they do not have our personal interests at heart. See what they've done to Greece and other countries .
Cancer is more interested in what nurtures our SOULS then in any physical 'thing' that seems to give us security. Cancer symbolizes the oceans where Life begins, whether the womb or the great salty seas. Cancer symbolizes the Great Mother of Life, and she wants us to grow and prosper, not as economic beings but as human beings. The Great Mother doesn't see us as sinners or slackers if we don't make a lot of money or aren't 'famous'. This Mother loves us for just being us . She wants us to nurture our talents and gifts, because those gifts are meant to be shared with family and the world. Isn't it time we let Her love us enough so that we actually know what we want and need and go out to make it happen?
At this New Moon in Cancer, we can plant the seeds of our deepest needs and desires, watered by our sense of self-love and compassion. We need to love ourselves so we can love others. Our fulfillment sparks others to find their own. And our compassion fills us with the knowledge of our inter-dependence, making us willing to share ourselves with the world.
Compassion is an important virtue to practice--it helps us feel the pain of the world and makes us want to help make things better. The Dalai Lama, whose 80 th birthday was July 6 th , wants us to practice compassion. For more on this see: Compassion
The New Moon in Cancer occurs on July 15 at 6:24 pm PDT/ 9:24pm EDT/ July 16 th at 1:24am GMT.
The Sabian symbol for the Sun and the Moon at 24* Cancer is: A woman and two men castaways on a small island in the South Seas. This image is interesting because I have been seeing quite a few 'triad' relationships lately. Most of them entail two women and one man though. This image gives power to the woman and probably teaches the men to stop being possessive. Feminine consciousness is the basis of life, and having two male companions suggests that new ways of acting (the divine masculine is active) are being developed. To be 'castaways' entails being lost to the regular world, sometimes without resources--especially in the South Seas. You have to depend on yourself or on others--i.e., the TV series LOST.
(Pay attention to any new ideas and intentions you come up with this New Moon. Write them down but do not act on them. Over the next 9 months, keep working on these ideas but wait until next April 14th before taking action. There's a 27 month process of manifestation (3x3x3) that begins with this New Moon, reaches a crisis point next April, fully manifests in January 2017 and finishes up in October 2017. Track the process and see what happens! )
Since the New Moon is in a challenging aspect to Uranus in Aries, there is an opportunity to allow a new sense of yourself out of the closet. If you're lost on a small island, you have to become the hero/ine of your own life. Let your archetypal identity come through and challenge yourself to make those changes that will give you the life you want and deserve.
We are helped in this by the energies of Mars, Mercury and Pluto. Mars symbolizes the masculine/active energy of assertion, will, action and our personal desires. In Cancer, this energy is focused on nurturing, family, home and our emotional base. Mercury symbolizes the Mind, both the left-brain rational mind and the right-brain imagination. It signifies how we understand the world. In a water sign such as Cancer, Mercury connects us to our feelings. Unfortunately, we haven't been trained to articulate our feelings very well, except through acting them out! That's something we can all work on--we need to be able to communicate what we're feeling.
With Mercury aligned with Mars here in Cancer, we're going to want to act on our needs and stand up for our family. They align with Neptune in Pisces, giving us the self-confidence and creativity we need to do it. Call in your spiritual warrior!
Mars and Mercury join together hours after this New Moon in Cancer and they exactly oppose Pluto in Capricorn, aligning our personal needs with our collective needs. We're once again in the energies of the Pluto/Uranus square of the past three years. We can no longer sit back and say we don't want to engage in 'politics'. We are a part of our communities, our nation and our world. We have to engage in the world if we want justice, ecological health and peace. Just find your own way to engage.
