The Cosmic Story flows and ebbs like the ocean tides. Sometimes the energies are quiet and easy, other times there is turbulence and even a perfect storm, such as we had in April with the Cosmic Grand Cross and this year's first set of eclipses.

Mercury Retrograde

In October, we once again enter eclipse season. But first we start off with Mercury retrograde this Saturday, October 4th. Mercury starts off in the beginning degrees of Scorpio and then backs up into Libra once again. Perhaps you've already been experiencing some Mercury retrograde glitches with your technology, but the big glitches come this time in our relationships. Our relationship communications can get tangled up for the next month as Mercury retrogrades from 3* Scorpio on October 4th to 17* Libra when it turns direct again on October 25th. If you have planets in those degrees, watch your thoughts and see what they center around.

The Sabian symbol for Mercury going retrograde at 3* Scorpio is: A house-raising party in a small village enlists the neighbors' cooperation. I've always loved the notion of barn-raising--it's sort of like what Habitat for Humanity does. The community gets together to build a house for those in need. With this symbol, we're asked to cooperate with others to build something strong and permanent--perhaps a new mental paradigm? Whether we do this in our relationships or with a business partner or in our community or the world, it's time to adjust our minds to the fact that doing things together will get the work done faster and better than going it alone. And it's much more fun!

The usual Mercury retrograde wisdom is to re-check your facts, back-up your devices, remember not to sign important documents unless you've double-checked everything and check flight and road status if you're traveling. And don't forget debts (another Scorpio-rules area of life) might come due for collection.

With Mercury in the 'relationship' signs of Scorpio and Libra, it's a sure bet that hidden emotional issues might re-surface. It might be time to re-evaluate some long standing relationships, both personal and professional. Try not to lie to yourself and your mate or friends since undoubtedly your shadow will be showing during and after this retrograde.

It's a great time to do some hard inner work so we stop projecting our own issues onto others and start taking responsibility for our own feelings and needs. Try to open up your fifth chakra and share your inner truths with your people and the world. And watch for some secrets to be revealed on the world stage, such as the inept response of the Secret Service when they let a man make his way into the White House.

Mercury retrogrades can be a time when we step back from our usual thinking patterns and behaviors and see how our rational mind keeps our old story intact--that patriarchal story that says we have to 'be better, do better' to achieve what our society holds up as an ideal. Our old story is the one that keeps running through our heads while we go about life. During Mercury retrograde, we get to step back and watch how that old story pops up whenever we're uncertain or insecure. These old thinking patterns at kept alive by our limiting beliefs about ourselves or the world. However, we are in the midst of an evolutionary revolution, and it's time to overthrow the old rationality that keeps us down whenever we compare ourselves to others. It's a competitive mindset that only relies on our masculine, left-brain rationality and ignores our feminine right-brain feeling imagination. With all the changes going on both within and without, isn't it time to let go of the old story and begin to write a new one, a new story that accepts our uniqueness and opens up our creativity?

Eclipse season, Fall 2014

Look for the month of October to be another month full of changes. The eclipse season starts with a total lunar eclipse in Aries and Libra (seen in Asia and the Americas) and then later in the month with a partial solar eclipse in Scorpio (seen in North America, the Pacific and eastern Asia) on October 23rd.

Eclipses herald changes, especially total eclipses. Although astrologers cannot predict how an eclipse will affect you, they do act like wild cards, bringing up stressful emotions or chaotic situations. Or they might not have any outward effect at all. It depends on how it aspects any of your planets and what houses it takes place in.

This total lunar eclipse mostly affects 10* to 20* Aries/Libra as well as Cancer/Capricorn--with Pluto squaring it at 12* Capricorn. Uranus conjunct the Moon in Aries will also add some spice. So look for life-changing shifts in consciousness that provide opportunities to complete major life lessons, which give you the freedom to move on to the next level of your life's purpose.
